I am a 63 year old son who has durable power of attorney for my 90 year old mom with dementia. While paying her ATT phone bill I noticed an extra charge from USBI for long distance service that my mom does not need because she makes very few local calls and zero long distance calls. On November 24, 2012 I called USBI (phone call confirmation # 2134) and they let me listen to a recording of the verification call in which my mom said yes to the service. It was painfully obvious in the recording that my mom had no idea what she was being led into.  After listening to the recording even the USBI representative (Lisa #7314) agreed that my 90 year old mom probably did not know what she was agreeing to. She then let me speak to her supervisor (Cristina Bee #7456) who also listened to the same recording but only said that she could tell that my mom couldnt hear very well but had said yes to the service. I asked for a copy of the recorded call because I wish everyone in America could hear it and know exactly the kind of predatory telemarketing calls that are being made to defenseless and elderly people by this company. Cristina Bee (USBI Employee # 7456) said that because of company policy I could not have a copy of the recording. At my request, my moms unwanted long distance service was canceled. I also asked that the service verification recording be retained until I can somehow bring this to the attention of some agency that can get the unethical practices of this company and their hired telemarketing and verification company stopped.
Thank you very much for any help or attention that you can bring to this issue.
