I received my phone bill (they are my local and long distance carrier) complete with nearly $25 dollars worth of international long distance through USBI. Three calls were charged prior to 6 a.m. on 11/15/04. No such calls were made.

I called the company, who accused me of placing the calls myself. They issued a one time courtesy charge removal, after snidely insisting that I was being dishonest. Only at the end of the call did they tell me that the calls were made through my computer. Incidentally, my computer was turned off, disconnected and I was fast asleep. I live alone, debunking their theory that another household member used the number.

Important note: I am a degreed engineer and NJ licensed computer technician. I built my PC from scratch, and I also monitor all activity myself. I do not receive pop ups, and I certainly have never inadvertently agreed to any terms. These people flat out stole my number for their own devices.

I notified phone company of the problem, and it's been noted on my account. They tell me that they've been flooded with calls recently reporting the same issues. And I've found many similar reports on www.ripoffreport.com. But that is little comfort because although I've received a confirmation number from USBI that I'm removed from their international calling service, I know I may have to deal with this issue next month.

I feel sorry for Americans without access to the web or without the presence of mind to write and demand answers.

Thank you for your assistance.
