I used to work as a mechanic for one of Utah's most successful new car dealerships in the early days of the dealership. This was in the early late 70's and early 80's. We had a lot of Iranian students with wealthy fathers who would come in and buy new cars on the strength of their father's credit. They would take the cars and then not pay their monthy payments. This was very typical back then. As a result, we would repossess the cars and bring them back into the shop. Under the direction of the owner, the cars would be detailed and the odometers set back to near zero and the cars re-sold as new.

I must admit, I was part of this dishonesty but didn't give it a second thought at the time. Everyone there was dishonest. It was just the way business was done. Our sales men would always brag about how they ripped off customers. A common phrase was "they think they walked out with chicken salad when all they got was chicken s**+*."
