I purchased a dinette set and rolltop desk from these guys the end of October or beginning of November 2003. All was well until January 28, 2004. My wife was cleaning up after dinner and I was doing dishes when she screamed out loud! The finish on the dinette table top was coming off. All she did was wipe it with a damp sponge.

I immediately called Value City and they sent some one out on or about Febuary 7. He took pictures and said it looked like I spilled something on it and this was not the case I explained this too him and he said okay call in a couple of days. When I called back I spoke to the manager who said they were not responsible for the damage and I was. They would not give me a new table top nor would they give me a refund. They said they would try and fix it as a courtesy when the temperature in their warehouse reached a consistent 60 degrees. They said this may or may not work. So in the mean time I am stuck looking at this defective table and I am out the 600 bucks plus tax I paid for it.

I have written their corporate headquarters about this and have told them I will gladly pay for the desk but I refuse to pay for the table. Anything you can do to help will be appreciated.

Hi Terrry:

Sorry to hear about that. It's true - they won't do anything for you. When the tech came out to looka t your table he probably determined that it was customer abuse. I'm sure that's not the case, but they are not going to exchange that piece since you purchased it so long ago - the only advice I can offer is to let them pick it up for repair. You should have a one year warranty for service. When the pick it up they will bring it back to manufacter's standards. It's usually fine, and I'm sure you will be satisfied with it. But, you have been totally put out this whole time, and I am sure you are very upset. Make sure you read all the policies. I think that you should probably let them fix it and be done with them for good. I'm saure you will not be purchasing from them again.

Sorry,
