Complaint Review: Vecto Inc. DOT # 2930071. - Chicago Illinois

We hired this driver out of GA. During pre-employment, he was made aware of our company policy and how we run. One of the first things that is brought to our drivers attentions is that our policy is 2 weeks on the road then a weekend of home time. During his first week he decided he had to go home. Not only did he go in NJ (we were not aware of this), he also let us know that the heating in his house is off (due to the gas being cut off) and refused to leave until we pay for the heating (gas) to be reinstated.

Another company policy is that call's that are non emergency should not be made outside standard work hours (9am-5pm Monday to Friday). He constantly bothered employees when they were home (starting as early as 3am, regardless if it was the weekday or the weekend) for cash advances or just for kicks. Lied to dispatch about his location. While on a load decided to drive over 700 miles out of route without authorization. Was not limited to that one occurance, that was just the longest personal roadtrip he took with our equipment. But when it came time to work he drove an average 220 miles per day. The last week he drove a total od 1000 miles and the last load from VA to WI he drove 172 mi per day. I have office furniture with more miles.

Due to all of those reasons, the employee was terminated, and sent home. As per our company policy, any employee that violates our company policy manual and principles of operation he/she qualifies to get terminated without pay. An important note is that this driver was never even close to getting checks of $3,000.00 for the work and effort (or lack thereoff) he put in. When you see his performance in the image I attach, make a decision for yourself. 

We are not perfect as a company nor as people but we did our best to accomodate and work with this employee but our company policy had suffered enough, so we decided to enforce our rules and regulations. 

To summarize:

- We supplied with cash for heating bill or gas bill (basically we were extorted and our equipment was held hostage).

- Made sure he was home whenever he wanted to.

- Provided him with cash advances constantly even if his performance told us that we should not.

In return we were subject to:

- No performance, horrible results. 

- Lying to dispatch and office staff. 

- Threats to dispatch and office staff.

- Not being reasonably available to staff. 

- Using our equipment as a personal vehicle and driving over 700 miles out of route for personal errands. 

- Constant harrasment and abuse of every office member. 

- Blatant disregard for company policy.

At the end of the day, some people do not want to work and are more interested in finding excuses and blaming other people for their problems. I will upload an image of his loads, and the work he completed. I am fortunate enough to know a lot of truck drivers, but do not know one who would be proud of a record like this. 

And let us know how much you won in the lawsuit.  I assume you've contacted an attorney and are taking steps to get your money back- you sure sound like you are- so don't leave us hanging when it's all done.
