I saw the ad in the Plain Dealer.  It was placed under  'Employment - Customer Service'  which implies being hired as an employee and being paid $14.25 an hour.

because it read:  "$14.25 base, flex schedule, conditions apply".

This is definately not an employment situation.  It is a business opportunity, where you work for yourself under the umbrella of Vector Corporation and Cutco; you find your own customers; you set your own hours; you are a 1099, in essence, you are in business for yourself.

This position should have been listed under  'Business Opportunities'.

I called to schedule an interview and was told by Brittany's receptionist the job paid $14.25 base, there was no cold calling, no telemarketing involved, no selling door-to-door, and appointments were pre-set.

This automatically implies there is a base pay of $14.25 per hour, there is no cold calling via the phone, and company leads are provided.

The reality of this situation is far different than one is led to believe, by reading the ad, and talking to the receptionist.

You are paid $14.25 per appointment;

You must cold call on your family and friends to pre-set your own appointments;

There are no company leads provided;

Also, what was not mentioned at all until the very end of the presentation ---

You need a car;

You need $150 in order to start;

You work as a 1099.

When I first entered the office I filled out a very short application.  When I was done the recepionist, a very young girl, looked it over then walked into Brittany's office and handed it to her.

Brittany's door was wide open.  I was sitting directly in front of them.  The receptionest laughed at my resume when she handed it to Brittany.  Brittany stiffled a laugh and put on a phony professional face.  I have no idea what was so amusing, but I felt like a fool sitting there.  I did not say anything because I am in dire need of a job, so I swallowed my pride, and ignored their blatant disrespect, arrogance and rudeness towards me.

I went into Brittany's office, answered a few general questions, then went into the next room for a general interview with several other candidates.  That took about an hour.  Afterwards I had a private interview with Brittany.  I expressed my concern about not having the money to pay for the starter kit.  She asked if I could borrow it from an aunt.  I am 60.  She asked me this in a patronizing tone of voice, as if she were talking to a 20 something person; again spoken with an attitude of disdain and disrespect.

I told her my daughter, her husband and the 5 children were living in my home in Florida, because they are homeless, that I was up here staying with my other daughter and her husband trying to find a job to support all of us, and that my home is in foreclosure.

She instantly dismissed me from the interview.  In other words, no money for the starter kit - get out!

I told her she knew nothing of life.  She said, "Get out of my office".  I was so frustrated and angry all I could think to say was, "You are unkind".  She just kept repeating, "Get out of my office".  I said once again, "You are most unkind.  I spent $5 to get here, $5 that I did not have, to apply for what I thought was a job."  She loudly repeated, "Get out of my office".

As I left, she laughed at me again as she addressed the two fellows, who were waiting for their girlfriends, who were to privately interview with her.

I had to take 2 buses, the 90F and the 26 to get to this interview.  It took 2 hours each way.  It was close to 100 degrees that day.  I had nothing to eat or drink the whole time, until I got home.  When I got home I had a pretty bad headache; I took 2 Tylenol and cried.

I don't normally cry after an interview, but this was really bad.

I spent 5.5 hours trying to obtain employment when there was none to obtain.  It not only wasted and ruined my entire day, well into the evening, but I used what was almost my last $5, to purchase an all day bus pass, to get to this sham of an interview.

If this had been listed under 'Business Opportunities' like it should have been, because that is exactly what it is, then I would not have responded to the ad, nor would I have been exposed to the shoddy treatment exhibited by Brittany and her receptionist.

I gave Brittany 5.5 hours of my time and almost my last $5.  The very least she could have done was to give me 2 minutes of her time, and listen to what I had to say.  Instead, she acted a bit bizarre, very disrespectful, very arrogant and showed great disdain towards me.

This is the caliber of people you have representing not only your company, but Cutco as well?  This comes pretty darn close to describing Brittany and her receptionist as 'white trash'.

The deception used in your business practices, which entice people to come to your interviews is unethical.  I would even go so far as to call your business practices immoral, due to the state of our deplorable economy that has placed millions of people in dire straits, due to very high unemployment, foreclosures, repossession of cars etc, etc.

I have been out of work since October 17, 2008, my home in Florida is in foreclosure, my family is living in it because they have no where else to go; I had to sell my Camaro that I owned since 2/1997, to pay what few bills I could.  I sold my dad's pilot watch he owned since 1962; I sold my mom's gold wedding band she wore for 57 years.  I cried for almost a week.  I never thought my situation would come to this.  I had to relocate to Ohio, because there are no jobs in Florida, but there are a few in Ohio.

Right now none of us have the money to pay for the electric bill, or the phone bill for my daughter in Florida, with a husband and 5 children.  Both Heather and Mike have been out of work since 2007.  They've been unable to find work for 3 years.  Their unemployment ran out 3 months ago.

I'm dealing with all of this, and I go out of my way to come in for an interview, for what I was led to believe was a job situation, only to find out it wasn't that at all, only to be laughed at, insulted, and treated like I had done something wrong, because I dared to say something to Brittany, that would have taken all of 2 minutes of her time to listen to, if she was considerate and polite, not to mention compassionate.

She knows nothing of life and the sad part is, she doesn't care.

I have filed a complaint with the BBB, Consumer Protection, Federal Trade Commission and this Posting.
