Complaint Review: Verizon & Directv

Verizon & Directv Bundle offer is a rip off Philadelphia Pennsylvania

In November Verizon assured me service was now available in my zipcode so we signed up for the triple play phone/tv/internet. My internet is supposed to be 500 kbps but is only 200. Three service techs came out and couldn't fix it so it was referred to engineering who decided it cannot be fixed. We were told by a service tech that our house is 6 miles further away than the end of Verizon's signal and we should never have been offered Verizon services.

In an effort to cancel the package I've been informed that Directv is a separate entity and although Verizon cannot live up to their part of the bargain Directv will not let me cancel the package without a penalty.

Verizon knew my address was not in their area but they wanted to sell Directv so they're offering bogus Verizon offers that contract people to Directv for 15 months while not providing promised services on their end.

While I agree with the DirecTv employees response that Verizon's Sales team failed to disclose information, DirecTv must have some knowledge that this practice has been going on and therefore should rectify the situation by honoring Verizon's 30 day cancellation policy.

DirecTv should take further responsibility with the fact that the customer thinking they are with Verizon does not think they are being baited to sign a contract that DirecTv calls a work order form. This work order form is issued at the end of an installation with no disclosure by the field tech to the fact that the work order form is indeed a contract.

Obviously Directv can not control every Verizon Salesperson who fails to disclose the terms and conditions, but they must take responsibility in the fact that they are part of a sales campaign that offers a 30 day, penalty free cancellation. That is just false advertising, and since Directv is aware of this false advertising, they need to take extra steps to disclose the information.

A simple solution would be for a DirecTv representative to call the customer prior to installation to confirm the order and re-iterate that a contract will be furnished at the time of installation.

i work for directv and first of all it's not directv that is causing your problem, it's verizon. you signed up for the triple play, which included directv and the contract that is separate from verizon. if your service with directv is good i don't understand why you are wanting to cancel it in the first place. second, you mentioned a 15-month directv contract, there is no such contract length with directv. if all you have are standard receivers then your contract is 18 months and if you have any advanced receiver (dvr, hd, or hd-dvr) your contract is 24 months. it is unfortunate that you had a bad experience with the bundles, but you are placing this under a directv complaint when directv had nothing to do with it.
