I'm a paratrooper in the U.S. Army and deployed to Iraq 1 October 05. I called Verizion 22 September 05 to cancell my contract and paid my bill in full. The customer service representative stated that I could place service on hold status and call once I return to get it turned back on!

I called yesterday, 26 February 06 to reactivate my phone and they had disconnected it due to non-payment. My bill was not paid in full! when speaking with customer service they stated that in order for me to get service I had to pay over $300.00 dollars to settle the past due amount and re-connect service.

This was a fine way to treat a Soldier serving his country in time of war! If you are a Soldier, Sailor or Airman, I suggest you cancel your contract with Verizion if you deploy! They will rip you off! Truley un-American! Makes me wonder who's freedom and rights I'm protecting with my life!

Thank you,

George,
First I want to thank you for your service to our country. My husband is also in the military, and did a tour in Iraq.

We also have Verizon wireless service. When my husband was deployed, all we had to do was take in a copy of his deployment orders to place his account on hold. Were you told to do this by Verizon? Was your account placed on hold, or did they just keep charging you the monthly fee? If they kept charging you the monthly fee, maybe they will fix it if you show them a copy of your orders stating that you were deployed.

I hope they resolve this for you. So far we have not had any problems with Verizon, and we have had them for about 6 years.

God bless you and your family.
