Verizon Wireless Rebate malpractice. Verizon stores misdirect consumers to ensure rebates never get sent in Basking Ridge New Jersey
My daughter has been a Verizon customer for three years, and on a recent trip to LA we stopped into a VERIZON store and upgraded her phone. Great news - no cost for the phone as long as we renewed our Verizon contract for two years. We were given the paperwork for the rebate and told we had to fill it in and mail it, and then returned home the following day. Except that when I sat down to send in the paperwork, it turned out you needed the UPC code from the phone box, now long since recycled in LA. Since the UPC code is clearly printed on the rebate form, along with all the product and payment information, the only possible purpose of this requirement is to bank on the fact that many of us will have discarded the box before we read the instructions.
Verizon's rebate phone line answer: sorry, that's the deal! (And yes, they admit that many customers are in the same predicament)

Yeah, it's kind of a good idea to read the instructions. Of course if you did, you would have gotten your rebate like all of my customers have.
The 'UPC' code on the receipt is not a copy of the one on the box but is used by the rebate center so they don't have to type everything in. Having the rebate form doesn't prove that you purchased service, just that you have a rebate form.

Are you really upset?d you through away the box and mad because the rebate is now void. Go sit down and reevaluate the situation. It's like buying nuggets from mc donalds and you are in a hurry and you through away the sauce. Addtional chargers for sauce are .10. Do you get made because they charge you for the addtional. If you did not check the bag whose fault is it really. Just because I no longer miss my old job in customer service I'll say "sorry for YOUR inconvience". That's not deceptive that's real business. Follow directions!

Everyone knows when you mail in a rebate, you need the label from the box and the receipt. How else would you prove your proof of purchase? You clearly haven't sent a rebate before. If you didn't need it, anyone could find a rebate form off the streets and mail it in and get someone elses money. Duh! Read the information given to you before you decide to throw things away. What if you would have bought the phone and a week later it malfuntioned? Without the box, no refund! Think about it. And this goes for all companies, not just Verizon Wireless.
