I am in the military (Army) and was in virginia. I got orders for europe (Germany), and my report date was 29TH of april, 2005. So on the 26TH, i went into a verizon wireless store in dale city in virginia, saw a customer service personel, whom from the looks of hings, was new at the job.

I explained my situation to him, and that i want my service cancelled on the 29TH. I gave him a copy of my orders, he went to the back room, and came back, typed some things on the computer, and then told me that everything is taken care of, so i left with the notion that my service will be cancelled at the appropiate ime.

In my mind, i knew i owed them for the month of April, that was paid, but then they sent bills for May, June and July. At tht time i was in Iraq, so my mom was taken care of my bills. When the bills came to her house for each of the extra months, she made it known to me, so i told her not to pay those bilss, beause as far as i knew, my service was cancelled.

I just happened to check my credit report today, i found out that they had sent my record to one of the credit bereaus, saying that my account is charged off, and that i owe them $151.00

Indeed we do have a active military agreement.

The above ex-employee is correct as we do have this option. It seems to me that the new employee did not submit it right, which you may have some options with that. If indeed it was submitted you can contact customer service and they will have notes from the rep that did it. However please keep in mind that usually you have two bills that come due during this time. If you did not pay those bills that could be why you were sent to collections.

Verizon Wireless does have an active service policy

It was my understanding when I worked for Verizon Wireless that accounts belonging to active military that went abroad were terminated with no early termination fee and they were not to be hassled. If they did indeed violate their own practice you may have a complaint. They cannot have a policy for some and not for others. That would be discriminatory. Call your lawyer - or maybe have your mom go to legal aid.
