I have lived in towns where I feel the Police Department serves the community, are part of the community, and are nice people.

On the other hand...Vernal police are it's own gang! Not only do they shave their heads and look like skin heads...they loiter the same 7-11 in groups and sit and watch everyone that goes in the 7-11 like the 7-11 is the whole town of Vernal.

Is this what my tax dollars pay for?A 7-11 gang?I would feel good if I worked at this particular 7-11...it would never get robbed!Do they own this particular 7-11?Is it their territory?

I hesitate to say Hi to these guys because they look like they will mow you over if you show a nice gesture or any gesture...

Has Utah become such a poor and decrepid state that it cannot afford gas to patrol other parts of our 8,000 population?Or are these guys too good for that?

I don't know where you work, but it's probably not inside a 5' by 3' box with 2 seats and a steering wheel.

It's unfair to judge these guys based on their presence at the local 7-11 (their 'watering hole', equivalent to the office water dispenser). These guys are just sitting back waiting for a call, and actually proactively patrol the streets on occasion.

Next time you need help, they're just 3 numbers away (or a short trip to your local 7-11). Say 'thanks' next time you walk in for a cup and maybe you'll see they're normal people too (except they risk their lives for you every day!).

Hey Bill, why are you so worried about the cops being at 7-11? Just because you see them there does not mean there aren't more cops elsewhere. Besides, if you know they are there, wouldn't you expect to sleep better at night knowing they won't be visiting you?
