Complaint Review: Village of Calumet Park Water Department

*Do not move to Calumet Park, Illinois**
Here is why:

I have lived in Calumet Park, Illinois for 22 years. I have been a homeowner for 12 years. I have paid my water bill once a year for the previous 10 years. In the previous year a bill arrives and I pay it the next month. I lost my job and budget from month to month.

A strict budget! A water bill comes in the middle of the month and is due 12 days later. If you don't pay in the 12 days they add a 10% penalty. If you don't pay 7 days after that you get a disconnection notice that gives you 7 days to pay.

For example:
I received my bill on July 13th.
It is due July 23.
The 10% penalty starts on July 24.
I receive a disconnect notice on August 1st.

This is highway robbery!!!
I have brought this to the attention of the village officials only to be told that they could not do anything. This is not right!!!

Calumet Park, Illinois has many other problems, this village sucks and the water bill problem is only the tip of the iceberg. The house prices maybe affordable but the aggravation is not worth it. You are a dollar sign nothing more.
