A guy came to our door and introduced himself and said that he was around the neighborhood and installing security systems. He said that we did not have to pay for installation or equipment. We are senior citizens and a system was what we were looking for. He told us that we did not have to pay anything for 30 days. After we got everything installed we sat down and did the paper work. At that time he told us that we were going to be billed $45. We asked why did he say that we were getting 30 days for free. He said that was just for the first month of service and that we had 30 days to try it and if we were not satisfied we could cancel and not be charged any more for the months following. Well we did not get the right equipment installed. The installers damaged where our existing phone line connection is at and drilled holes in our wall to install the display and controls for the system. Well we only have had the system in our home since July 9, 2013. We called to cancel and they said that we did not cancel in the alotted time frame and that we were going to be charged over $2,000 for early cancellation of the 5 year agreement. I told the customer service rep that the salesman had told us we had 30 days to try and if we didn't like we could cancel and not be locked in to the contract. Well, the customer service rep just said that they were not there to hear or know what the conversation was said between us and the salesman, and therefor we were going to be charged this huge amount of money for the cancellation. The customer service rep had said since we didn't want to pay the $2,000 that we need to find someone to take over the monthly payments to fulfill the 5 year contract. I had said that I will be getting in touch with an attorney and the customer service rep told me that was fine, and that if we wanted to file that we would have to go to court in Orem, UT to get the case settled. I hope no one ever has to go through what we went through. I hope we can find an attorney who will help us out.
