On July 9th 2006 my wife and I were searching for vehicles in Las Vegas Nevada when we found an loaded 2004 ton 4/wd pickup we liked. Being new to the state we were unaware that dealerships were closed on Sundays in Nevada. Even so there was a salesman cruising the lot. After speaking with him we scheduled an appointment for the next day. We told him we had a pre-approved loan through our credit union that would cover the price.

What ensued next was amazing. The price was $18,999. The mileage was high 69,000. Other than that the vehicle appeared to be quite nice. We took a controlled test drive and after returning to the lot my wife and I decided wanted to buy it.

Once we said we wanted the vehicle the salesman says, by the way you have to read the small print on the newspaper advertisements. He went on to say there was an additional $1499. that would be added to the vehicle price called Desert Protection Plan. We had to pressure him hard to get an explanation which was they would loosing money because they were into the vehicle for $21,000. and this was a way to protect themselves. We immediately challenged him and said we would not pay that.

The dealership was willing to give us a power train warranty for $1500. for one year.

As negotiations went on the price kept going up until it was over $23000.

We walked out when the salesman said there was a $495.00 document processing fee which when challenged the salesman adamantly said everybody has to pay that in Nevada.

We expected sales tax, licensing and some document fees. Our credit union rep was shocked at the doc fees as well as an issue with warranties. The dealership offered a 1 year power train warranty, where as our credit union had a bumper to bumper warranty for a similar price.

Anyone going to Vista Chevrolet in Las Vegas should beware of all the hidden costs that will turn up. The sticker price is not what you get.
