My grandmother had a man come by the house telling her that the alarm system was completely free. She said they talked for hours and had another man install the system the same evening. Nothing was mentioned about a contract or how long the service would last. When asked several times he always responded "It's Free!".

I called the company to cancel the service once she got a letter in the mail. I explained to the customer service people that she was very old, does not know how to use the system, did not want it, was disabled, mentally ill, and that she doesn't have the money.

They explained to me that it doesn't matter. There was nothing they could do for her because I called them 2 days after the trial period was over. There was no trial period mention either by the way. It's a sad day when a company has to feed off the mentally ill to make a buck. This company would rather over draft my grandmother's account for the next four years than to be socially responsable.

Cold hearted if you ask me. It's not like she wouldn't let them come by to get their equipment back. She would love the company!

The problem is that they automatically debit her account each month. I can't just not pay it and she refuses to change the account number.

Ignore the bills. When they try to take her to court notify the news media first then show up in court. I guarantee when the judge sees your elderly mother he'll dump on Vivint big time. On the other hand, Vivint, a Utah based company, will probably drop the issue well before that. Their 'certified' sales representative will probably not be certified any more.....No legitimate company wants even the mere appearance of taking advantage of the mentally challenged or elderly.
