I decided to purchase a add-on wood furnace and did my shopping online. I bought my Norseman wood furnace from the Vogelzang website and in doing my research, noticed that they sold a draft induction kit and a cold air return kit for the furnace right there. I decided to "do it right" and purchased the additional merchandise along with the furnace. I also bought two other items from them.

When I get the stove, amongst the literature is a parts list and on there are the items that I ordered extra. The kicker is that if I would have waited to purchase these two items from them until AFTER my stove had arrived, I would have saved $135. But in buying off of their website, it cost me dearly and I am understandably sore about it. I sent an e-mail to them and haven't heard back yet.

If you intend to buy a stove from this outfit, then don't waste your money purchasing any extras ahead of time. Wait until you get your order form with the stove and save yourself big time! I paid $135 for you to learn from my mistake.

It's been a few years since this happened, but I did indeed call the telephone number. I spoke to a lady who told me the internet price was the correct price. The internet also stated at the time that the model I ordered was supposed to come with shaker grates, but mine instead came with the solid grate. I tried to solve this over the telephone, and when that failed, I filed a complaint with the BBB and only then did I get any sort of willingness to make it right. As far as flooding with e-mails, yes, I was e-mailing, on top of calling. Finally, as for misinformation, that wouldn't be my fault. If they had old literature in the stoves they were shipping, whose fault is that? If the website said the stove come with shaker grates and I got a solid one; again, whose fault is that? I did call them. Nothing happened until the BBB got involved. You know, I'd still like to have the shaker grate that was supposed to come with my stove model according to the website.........

No Rip Offs Here

#4UPDATE Employee

Mon, December 07, 2009

As an employee of Vogelzang International, I can assure anyone out there that there are no "rip off" attempts from this company - all one has to do is either pick up the phone and call us, or search out product reviews to see that this company treats everyone fairly and in most cases, generously.  Had this gentleman picked up the phone and gave us a call, we would've explained to him that the literature that was in the unit was outdated AND we would have honored the prices on it, which in the end is exactly what we wound up doing.

Because he instead chose to email back and forth (we are flooded with emails here and answer each and every one, but it DOES take time), we have been branded as "rip offs" - due to his being misinformed I must now take the time to refute a ridiculous claim.  Folks, in the future, please pick up the phone - you will find that you do not get a call center in India, and most often times, actually get a live person.  Should you be forced to leave a message, please know that at THAT particular time, the phones are ringing off the hook and someone here WILL return your call within one day.

I might also add, for future reference, that OUR prices are much higher than you will find through one of our dealers - these dealers are our life blood and we actually WANT you to buy from THEM - our prices being higher is our way of protecting them and in turn, keeping YOUR local community economy strong.

Thank you!

I also filed a complaint with the better business bureau in Grand Rapids, Michigan against Vogelzang for this problem. Vogelzang credited my credit card the $135 difference that there was between their website price and their flier price. I noticed that the website still advertises the higher price so I wonder if they are raising the price in their fliers. I have absolutely no other complaint with this company. They make a good and solid product and I have to commend them for squaring up with me.
