Voip.com, an internet telephony company (i.e. voice over IP) sold me on their services over the phone, but engaged in deceptive sales practices in three ways:

1.I was told that I would have the first month free. What I wasn't told was that the month started the day of the sale, and not the day I acquired the internet telephony equipment (without which the service is useless).

2.They guaranteed me a $19.95 per month rate, without mentioning that voice over IP lines were obligated to pass on the universal service fee. By failing to disclose the monthly rate I would pay, I believe this constitutes their second foray into deceptive business practices.

3I was willing to let the other two go, but the third offense was outrageous. Though only generally disclosed on their terms of service, Voip.com actually charges the customer $39.95 should he decide that their service is not adequate (or not as promised) after 30 days from ordering and before one year of service.

This was not mentioned by either the salesman, or his superior. The terms of service only mention that such a fee MAY be assessed, but not how much. As this would be an important factor in deciding whether or not to purchase such a service, I believe that this deliberate omission of important decision-making information verily defines deceptive business practices.
