Vonage Cancellation nightmare. Charged $124 for discontinuing Pasadena California

Had the service for 3 months, and did'nt need it as I switched jobs and my old company was paying for it. After trying to keep my account by offering free service for a month or two, she finally starts the cancellation process. Now I knew there was a cancellation fee of 39.99. I was fine with that. The kicker is the $80 some odd dollars they charged for equipment (one router). I offered to mail the equipment back in its original box (as it was never used). But they refuse, and I had to pay $124 to cancel my service. For someone that offers the service as a cheaper alternative to landline, they sure employ hard handed tactics to retain customers. Very frustrating to be held hostage with $100+ cancellation fee. God knows how this company is surviving. I sure hope they go the sunrocket way. Please DO NOT GIVE EVEN A CENT of your hard earned money to these con artists. The fees they charge are exorbant and unnecessary for cancellation. When was the last time a cable company charged you for equipment you returned? Thats right, they dont. Not if you return it on time.
