The VPI pet insurance, ripped me off,I had bought insurance on a 10 month old pup,he was diagnosed with OCD,and they changed my policy 2 MONTHS AFTER I bought it,so I thought it was covered,I took the dog in.$3300 dollars later,I checked and they denied the claim.I recieved NO notification of ANY type of policy change through phone, mail,or email.WHAT a RIPOFF!!!Don't buy pet insurance. They'll get around paying you somehow! My dog's leg is better now,but my pocket book is not!ALL it take's is 14 $236/year policy holders to pay this.YOU KNOW they have tons of suckers, like me.I'm going to advertise on my big rig, what a SCAM!!

This user has written "They changed my policy without notifying me.So I had the dog surgery and it's not covered."

The condition she states her dog has is OCD (osteochondrosis dessicans). She states that the company changed her coverage two months after she enrolled without her knowledge and she had the pet's surgery which was then not covered because of that change.

I understand the frustration of having a pet with a serious medical condition and having that condition not be covered by the policy however this person's statement is 100% false--not only false but simply not possible. I am not sure whether this person is simply grossly misunderstanding the policy, was the victim of a misleading sales/customer service rep or is simply angry and has decided to bash the company as revenge for this incident.

The condition her pet has, OCD, has never been covered under any policy we carry as long as I have been there, which has been several years. It is not listed on the benefit schedule and is excluded from every plan we have--benefits for this condition do not exist and never have, plain and simple.

Furthermore we cannot change or reduce the coverage on any policy without the policyholder's written request to do so--even if this lady did ask to change coverage it does not matter because all she would be changing is the dollar amount/limit as far as coverage. We do not currently offer plans with varying coverage as far as certain conditions being covered under one plan and not another--the two plans we offer are identical as far as WHAT is covered. The only difference is the dollar amount covered.

She may also be referring to one of our new plans when she says we changed her coverage two months after her enrollment (although still, we did not change her coverage, just the plan offered in her state). The new plan may have been approved by the DOI right after she enrolled in our previous plan, however, once again, the condition her pet has is not and was not covered on any plan and it is not covered on the new plan either. I do not know for sure that this is what she is referring to, I am just guessing it is a possibility.

So, the only thing this individual is correct about is that we did not cover any part of her claim for her pet's OCD. However the reasons she lists are completely false and untrue. I am sorry she had such a negative experience and wish her and her puppy well.
