Wachovia charged my daughter $210. for 1 bounced check! I looked over her on-line transactions and she had the money in her account, but they held them until she wrote 1 check that would overdraw her account, and when that check was taken out they posted about 4 others that came in before that one and made them all bounce! I am so angry at them.

I called and talked to a customer service and they made no sense at all blaming it on her. I went back and retraced all of the steps and this should be illegal! She has never bounced a check before.

I am closing this account!

I'm sorry to hear about this situation with your daughter. But I would like to clarify a couple of things. First No bank decides when a checkcard purchase will post to your account. That is controlled by the merchant and when they run the batch on their card transactions to request payment. it may be the same day as the purchase, the next day or the next week. But since a checkcard transaction is guarenteed funds for a merchant, you need to make sure the funds are in the account for when the merchant wants paid.
Another thing id the fee of $210 that you mention. On the second time and thereafter that you have an overdraft in your account, the fee is $35 per item that posts negative. So if your daughter was charged $210 it was not for one check, it was for 6 items that posted negative. Sounds like what happened is that no register was used and a check was written that took money that had already been spent with the checkcard. Again, I'm sorry to hear that this happened but it shows the importance of keeping the register and writing down every transaction.
