Blockbuster Video is currently advertising "30 DVDs for 30 days, $19.95". Ha! I challenge you to find a Blockbuster that HAS 30 different DVDs in stock. In Shoreline, WA the Safeway has more DVD variety than Blockbuster! Unbelievable!!!

And here's how to deal with those late fees: If Blockbuster tries to pull their after 12 noon BS with you, charge them!!! That's right! Charge them for a "late charge payment processing fee"! If they don't pay, put it on their credit report!!! It's that simple! Yes!

I am still puzzled as to exactly what the ripoff was. You said you were unsatisfied about the number of videos available available during the 30/30 promotion. Ok, that's reasonable. But unless Blockbuster mislead you as to how many were available it's not a ripoff. Every potential consumer can simply walk to the rack and make their own decision as to the availability of dvds and whether it's a good or bad value. This was a national promotion and the availability varied from store to store, leaving it up to the individual consumer to decide for himself it's value. As for the late fee issue, what was the rip off? You may not agree with their return policy and that's your right and priviledge. But unless they tricked you into keeping the movie too long so they could charge you the extra fee it's not a rip off. The due date and time is on every receipt, so you have plenty of opportunity to return the movie on time. Also, at my local store they have the due dates posted on the exits and the employees announce the due dates for each movie as they hand them to you. If you don't agree with their policy shop somewhere else. You sound young, so I hope as you mature you will learn that you will be faced with choices good and bad your whole life and it is up to YOU to take responsibility to gather information and learn the facts before you make decisions.

Wrong About the 1:00 PM HAHA

#9UPDATE EX-employee responds

Mon, March 25, 2002

The fact of the matter is BBV computer has an automatic grace period (after 1:00 pm) and there is also a way for the employees to bypass the late fees if there is a question about whether a tape was checked in, in a timely fashion. There is no possible way if your friend returned the tape by 12:00 NOON that he was charged a late fee at 1:00 pm unless the tape was a day late already.

As for the 30 DVDs for 30 days for $19.95. I believe that program is over. But I know our store here in little bitty Springfield has just about as many DVDs as they do VHS tapes. In fact we have consent complaints that we keep getting rid of all the VHS tapes to make room for the DVDs. And since we can't expand the store the stores have to stock what they rent most.

By the way real mature with charging a company for a processing fee that any person with half a brain knows will never in this life time be paid to you. So it goes on a credit report for BBV big deal do you think your statment for $20.00 is going to effect a company like that. Hardly.

I agree with the first post. My friend turned his videos in before noon. BUT since Blockbuster decided not to check the video bin until 1pm, HEY, it MUST be late! HAHA. Anyway they tried charging him a late fee based on this scenario. He , and after a heated arguement, they agreed to take the late charges off his account.

Great idea. Turn the video in the night before it's due!!! Of course! Even better, just rent it, then drop it in the return bin before leaving the store! Go to www.lackeysforcorporateamerica.org to find more great ideas

like this.

Also, you can't refute that Safeway has a better selection at a fraction of the price.

Its this simple, turn in the freaking movies before noon or the night before and presto!!! problem is solved... no need to worry about fines and crying about them. If one turns in videos after the time when they are due then obvious there will be a fee.

Blockbuster: 15th & 145th

5/1 - Different DVDs available for rent: 47

5/2 - Different DVDs available for rent: 41

Safeway: 15th & 175th

5/1 - Different DVDs available for rent: 56

5/2 - Different DVDs available for rent: 45

Blockbuster had more TOTAL DVDs available. Great. 20 copies of "Charlie's Angels". It costs 4.99 and you can keep it for two days Blockbuster time, a day-and-a-half for the rest of us.

Safeway lets you rent two DVDs for three days (three FULL days), five bucks for both of them. Plus you can get chinese food there.

Blockbuster has a dandy little business. They can be handy. But when DVD players outsold VCRs 20 to 1 last Christmas season, don't you think it might be time to purge those fifteen "10 Things I Hate About You" tapes for sale "pre-viewed" and put in some new stock?
