I've worked for Wal-mart for sometime, also I've shopped there, cause they don't pay you enough to shop anywhere else. And let me just say this. Yes the customers are frustrated all the time. But you know what the employees are getting paid $6.50 an hour for you to yell at them because they don't know what isle the batteries are in. Just keep in mind people the employees are people too.

Now when it comes to getting your car serviced at a Wal-Mart Tire and Lube Express, do you see any ASE Certified Technician signs hanging about? NO. Wal-Mart doesn't wanna pay $15 an hour for Jimmy who actually knows what he's doing. They wanna pay Joe and Bob $6 an hour. These poor kids only know what they've learned by working on cars in their back yard!

Joe and Bob don't know much about the cheap bastards with thier Corvettes and Jaguars! Hello people, since when has getting what you pay for been such a surpise?

No I'm not defending Wal-Mart. Listen to what I'm saying: basically don't shop there if you don't like it. Think about it... The World's Largest Retailer right? Paying what $6 an hour to 80 billion people? How much poverty are you supporting by shopping there? And then you complain cause the kid didn't vacuum your BMW? Let's put a little more thought into this people. For your sanity and everyone elses.

And NO unless you have an honest service tech, which at $6 an hour most are not honest... they don't check the air in your tires, vacuum the cigarette butts off your floor, and least likely to check your fluids.

Ross, For Being a Teacher You Are Pretty Uneducated!

#4UPDATE Employee

Thu, December 15, 2005

This is to Ross from N.M.

I am a Wal-Mart employee, or "associate" as they like to call us. And while I have little college that which I do have I paid for myself. You see, I was raised by parents who made plenty of money, both of them exceeding $25.00/hr. You would think that would be enough for them to help their daughter through college. No, but then the goverment won't allow me grants or scholarships considering my parents income and my being caucasion.

So before you go around saying that $6.50/hr. is enough for a person to live on, consider that you are talking about a person. Where could you live on that income? Luckily I am engaged to a man making nearly $50,000 annually in the same company. Store managers make approximately $100,000 annually with the opportunity of $90,000 to $100,00 in bonuses each year. Wal Mart doesn't want the public to know what they pay their management because it is absolutely ridiculous to pay one person $100,000 and another $17,000 annually.

And just so you are aware: YOU ARE SUPPORTING POVERTY!!! Nearly 70% of Wal Mart associates are using welfare or some other form of government assistance. Yes, the percentage varies state to state, but obviously $6.50 an hour is not enough to live off.

Luckily for me I'll be attending school to become an X-Ray Tech in the fall, but for others, where both the husband and wife make only $6.50/hr. they will not have the same opportunity as I.

Your ignorance is why we, (wal mart associates), have a hard time smiling in your face.

Great report. We NEED Wal-Mart we need goods people can buy. Fat cat union members who are crying foul at Wal-Mart because they do not support the union wallets!

For the Teacher I stand and bow in your direction! Most teachers are in unions and some out here are not in support of Wal-Mart. Just so you know I am not a union hater, in fact my grand mother organized fellow teachers and won the first women to demand equal pay for equal work, but I digress. Out here in Los Angeles the "Unions" kept the BIG box store out of South Central. Wow what a victory now there is still no jobs. Who won?

minimum wage no excuse for poor service

I am a school teacher with a wife and two kids at home. It is not a big secret that teachers don't make millions of dollars. I could afford to shop somewhere else and pay more, but why? Wal Mart beats the prices of every other business in any town in America, and that's why I shop there. There is nothing wrong with being price conscience.

Regarding the question posed, "how much poverty are you supporting by shopping there?", over 1.5 million people are employed by Wal Mart, and yes, most of them make minimum wage or little more than that. This is not reason enough for me to stay away. Without Wal Mart, these 1.5 million people would be making NOTHING per hour or draining welfare money from the government. Wal Mart jobs are good for young people who have no college education (because, honestly, with no college education, it might not get a lot better than Wal Mart, unless you consider assistant manager at McDonalds a step up in the world), and are good for older retired people as well who like to supplement retirement, social security, or just need a job to get them out of the house.

I hear plenty of complaints in the news, or lawsuits posed by former Wal Mart employees, and all I can say is that, in a business that has more employees than the state of Idaho has people, you can never make all of them happy. Even if Wal Mart employees are 99% satisfied with their jobs, that leaves 1%, or over 10,000 disgruntled employees.

The last thing I wish to add is the statements about expecting poor oil changes at the lube center. Wal Mart doesn't offer oil service and tire service as a gamble. They don't say, "come in, we may screw up your car, but then again, we may not." Again, Wal Mart is offering something cheaper than most, and America responds to that. I get my oil changed at Wal Mart, and they've never destroyed my car. I'm sure it's happened, again, with thousands of stores, something's bound to happen, but using the fact that people make $6.50 an hour doesn't make it ok for them to be apathetic and do a piss poor job. If these people are so angry, I recommend they go back to school and get a better job, and stop whining. There's nothing worse than hearing someone who squeaked out of high school, dropped out, or just never cared complaining about their sad lot in life. Tough crap, if you hate your life, do something about it.

In closing, I will continue to shop at Wal Mart for almost everything, and I will continue to support "poverty" by shopping there until someone can come along and beat their prices.
