Wallace Hyundai Doesn't honor quallity of its product Stuart Florida

We purchased a 2008 Hyundai Santa Fe from Wallace Hyundai.  (We had traded in a previous Santa Fe because of problems with that paint as well)  After 3 1/2 years the paint started to just fall off the car, literally, leaving big bare exposed steel spots on the middle of the hood.  And they just kept on growing bigger and bigger!!!  We took it to Wallace Hyundai who said it was not longer under warranty and not their problem.  The service guy told us he would "get back" to us with a quote.  He promised to "give us a deal".

What a joke... no call, email or any other attempt to do the right thing.  We then received two separate estimates from local body shops.  They both said it was an obvious Manufacturer defect and were surprised by Wallace Hyundai's lack of professionalism.  They also noticed the the paint flaking away down the middle of the roof as well.  They said it was due to the paint process being improperly applied while still too hot from the original under coating.  We will NEVER give our business to Wallace Hyundai, or any other Hyundai dealer for that matter, again.

A 2008 Hyundai would still be under the "7-Year/Unlimited Miles Anti-Perforation Warranty" form the manufacturer. If we add 7 years to 2008 we get 2015. Therefore the vehicle is still under warranty.

Please feel free to 'Google' this- AMERICA'S BEST WARRANTY HYUNDAI, and read the "7-Year/Unlimited Miles Anti-Perforation Warranty". There is obviously a defect in the materials or a defect in the workmanship that is causing the paint to come off.

***IDEA FOR MARK&DEB: Feel free to send copies of your Ripoff Report to all of your Local TV News Stations. Put it to the attention of 'Investigative Reporter'. There is a chance that someone will contact you and do a story on TV. If this happened to you, it is logical to conclude that it is happening to others who have Hyundai vehicles. Exposing the problem on TV would be a great way to get others to join in and tell their stories too.

"We took it to Wallace Hyundai who said it was not longer under warranty and not their problem."

That sounds about right.   When a warranty period is over, it is the vehicle owner's responsibility to pay for repairs.

They both said it was an obvious Manufacturer defect and were surprised by Wallace Hyundai's lack of professionalism."

I believe it was a defect, but I do not believe that they were surprised that no one would fix it for free.   Unlike you, the people at the other shops probably know what a warranty means.

In a nutshell, it covers you against defects in manufacturing for a given period of time.   Once that period of time is over, you are no longer covered for such defects.    How do you figure anyone besides you is responsible for repairs?  It's a very simple concept that a surprising number of posters on this site do not seem to be able to grasp.

Since Hyundai put $225 million aside for false mileage claims for its vehicles, it is possible that they put money aside for inferior paint jobs and inferior materilas being used to manufacture the vehicles too. You can 'Google' this- HYUNDAI AND KIA PUT $412 MILLION AWAY FOR PEOPLE STIFFED OVER FUEL ECONOMY CLAIMS, and read the related articles that are aavailable on the web.

Colorado,

How is Wallace Hyundai responsible for this used vehicles paint problems?

IF there is any way to get help with the problem, you will likely have to go through the manufacturer directly.  Don't hold out hope that they will help either. It is six years old now. They may or may not offer some form of help, but are under NO obligation to do so.

Don't pay any attention to Karl, he sees a conspiracy in most everything and you do NOT have a "rust perforation" problem as he surmises.

It appears that a 2008 Hyundai comes with a 7-Year/Unlimited Miles Anti-Perforation Warranty from the manufacturer, according to information that is available on the web. Just 'Google' this- AMERICA'S BEST WARRANTY- HYUNDAI, and click on the '7-Year/Unlimited Miles' that is in the blue print for additional information. (This warranty started with the 2005 models.)

So your vehicle is covered under this warranty, wouldn't you agree? Since there was obviously a defect in the materials or the factory workmanship that caused the paint to flake, it would be logical to conclude that the CEO of Hyundai would understand and offer some type of compensation, in my opinion.

Good luck, and please keep us updated.

This was purchased as a brand new car.  We took it to the dealer every 6 months for the Auto Butler upkeep and service.  No one neglected to care for this car. Please obtain the correct information before making false accusations and being abusive.  Thank you

Yes lets ignore that it has been 3 1/2 years since your purchase. Lets also ignore that it was a used car. Lets ALSO ignore that the previous owners lack of care on the paint, and lets also ignore where you live. All factors as to your paint flaking problem, and blame THEM for your paint issue.

Seems awfully suspicious now that we have broken down the factors that cause your paint issue. It MUST be their fault. Why would ANYONE expect for you to take care of YOUR cars paint job. You purchased a USED vehicle. You purchased it with a warrenty. That warrenty is no longer good, so you feel perfectly alright blaming them in a "Internet Blackmail" post. You DO realize how transparent your whole story looks right??

You KNOW your issue is caused by lack of care on the paint. You have looked for people to support your argument knowing that YOU as the consumer have a responsibility to maintain your vehicle by cleaning and waxing your vehicle on a regular basis. Hyundai is NOT responsible for your paint issue. You need to accept the fact that harsh enviroments destroy paint. Highly common to have peeling and flaking. It ALWAYS happens at a point where the paint has been damaged. Be it by a rock or something else.

Once that top coat is damaged then the elements get into the paint job and ruin it. But this doesnt happen overnight. Its a SLOW and PROGRESSIVE event. Which means YOU saw it happen. YOU could have stopped it. But instead its just easier and CHEAPER to blame them. Why accept responsibility when you can just play the victim. You need to accept the FACT that its YOUR maintaining of the vehicle that has caused this. Any auto parts store would have a quick fix for a small nick that would have caused this. Costs about $40. A couple hours of your time and done. But you did not do this. You did not maintain the paint job, and NOW its their fault.

If you cannot see how YOU have caused this issue then perhaps YOU dont need to have a vehicle. Its people like you who think its perfectly alright to place the blame for their problems on companies with deep pockets. heres a thought. Why didnt you go after the previous owner?? I can tell you why. You expect Hyundia to give you a free paint job and the previous owner couldnt do that. You expect Hyundia to bend over backwards and give you what you want because YOU have posted on a complaint website.

They are smarter then that. As are most of the people who visit here. They no longer go into panic mode if someone posts about them online. They KNOW that the American Consumer has a honesty issue. The american consumer has no compunctions with ripping someone else off so they benifit. They will LIE and SCAM and FABRICATE. In fact a good 75% of complaints are FALSE or FAKED or COMPLETLY UNTRUE.

Get over it. This is just the cost of owning a vehicle. Stop trying to place the blame on the company with deep pockets. YOU had 99% of the responsibility to care and maintain your paint job. No item, no matter how well constructed, is going to stand up to 6 years of weather abuse. Not WITHOUT maintenence. So blaming them only goes to show that YOU do not take care of your vehicles and ANY person who has ANY familiarity with autos or paint is going to tell you the same thing. The vehicle has been exposed to the elements for over 2000 days.

Roughly 2100 with an extra 36 days remaining to account for leap years, repair work, ect. So once you break down the math AND the factors involved in causing paint to flake and peel, you should be able to see HOW Hyundia is NOT legally responsible for YOUR issue. If you still refuse to accept reality, then there is always the good old fallback of, you purchased a USED vehicle. What do you expect from a USED vehicle. Your paint job is NOT intragrail to your ability to DRIVE your car, it just looks nasty.

Since youre so quick to place blame, be careful WHO you go to to do the paintjob. They may not have the patience to deal with a customer who feels its ok to use internet blackmail. Im sure Hyundia would LOVE to find out who you are. Its a little thing called SLANDER. Lies until proven true with FACTS and EVIDENCE. Neither of which you have presented in your argument. THEY have Lawyers, lots of them. So in the future I would suggest that you bring PROOF when youre going to blame someone, and preface ANY complaints with its your OPINION.

I believe that it is always best to go right to the top when you are experiencing problems with a product that is obviously defective. Feel free to send a copy of your Ripoff Report to the CEO of Hyundai. Simply 'Google' this- HYUNDAI'S CEO, and the information is available on the web.

You can go to www.hyundaimotorgroup.com and and then click on 'Location' in order to get the address in Seoul, Korea.

Good luck to both of you, and make sure to expose your Ripoff Report all over the web at sites like Twitter, Tumblr, Instagram, and Facebook in order to alert others of the problem.
