Complaint Review: Walmart

Walmart Always Better Bait and Switch Wilmington, North Carolina

Walmart advertised TurboTax Deluxe for $49.97 on a sale starting on January 6, 2013.  By 10 AM on January 6th there was no product on the shelves nor was there any product in the back.  Magically they did have copies of more expensive versions...hmmm.  Cashiers in the electronics area were rude, arrogant, and indicated they did not need to have stock because their ads always had disclaimers.

I complained to Walmart and have received nothing other than a call from the store apologizing for the behavior of the cashiers and evading the question of how much stock the store had at midnight or how many had been sold between midnight and 10AM.  Classic bait and switch and the refusal to answer questions on product sales suggests it was planned and intentional.

TurboTax Deluxe with fed, state, and e-file can be downloaded from OfficeDepot.com for $49.99.  No shipping charges, only sales tax.  The same software can also be found NEW at Amazon.com for $39.99 plus approx $5 for shipping.  I've never seen Walmart have a really good deal on ANYTHING.  Their employees are some of the lowest paid employees in our nation, so I wouldnt expect the greatest customer service skills from them.  Bait & Switch?  How so?

Bob it appears that this ripoff report has caused changes in advertising

Last week the ads had quicken and some other junk in them then get money back via the debit card route.  This week's ads have straight prices without the junk so maybe this is already a victory for the common people.  In the meantime attorney general report has been filed on the bait and switch so we will see what happens.  We are no longer using either Walmart or Sams

The other deals on product require purchase of useless products

-
Actually no they didn't(don't) require any purchase of extra items or rebates.  Not even the walmart.com one.

Yes the price is close as long as you take the two other useless products and pay then some time in the distant future receiving a rebate that brings the price for the product and its useless breathern to the lower price.

I doubt there was a huge run on this "sale".  They are only about 2 cents cheaper than you can get at many other national retailers currently.  In fact if you buy it on-line from Walmart and use their site to store it is only $48.97 with free shipping and available today.

Perhaps you went too early and they didn't get them in yet(yes delays do happen).  But even if they had a huge run, or only had 1 this is hardly "bait and switch"

Magically they did have copies of more expensive versions
- Magically?  How about people just not wanting to buy the higher priced version so those remained on the shelves?  Or do you really think they hired Harry Potter?
