I have a woman who took over my identity and credit card account which she charged several thousand dollars.

I filed identity and fraud charges against her and had papers delivered to me to verify I had nothing to do with this.

There was suppose to be an investigation in which I gave them most of the information. Come to find out 2 months later ( this happened in Aug. ) in Oct. that the investigation never took place. They even knew where she lived.

I asked WalMart Discover 3 or 4 times to close my account and to my suprise, they never did. So guess what, she charged again..

Now, WalMart Discover has raised my monthly payment and is calling my house trying to get me to pay this woman's charges. Go figure..

People, Stay away from WalMart Discover Card. You will only get hurt..

Lehelan, if I spelled it wrong I apologize,

Since she got your information, I would immediately contact the three credit reporting agencies. Experian, Equifax, and Transunion, and let them know you are a victim of identity theft so they can put an alert on your credit reports to keep her from opening any new accounts in your name.

Hope it turns out okay.

The End Of WalMart Discover Orlando Florida

I'm sorry I didn't come back with an update. Remember when I said the investigation never took place. Well, it did but not for very long. The WalMart Discover fraud department said it would take 90 days to investigate but after they found out the address they had wasn't hers or any other information they had on this woman who stole my credit card numbers, they canceled.

WalMart Discover had also called my police department, who I had investigating too, to call it off that it was all taking care of and it wasn't necessary for them to continue. I didn't like that because this woman got away with everything.

The next few days I was told to contact GE money bank they handled everything for WalMart Discover. The woman I talked to was very nice and I told her everything that went on and you know, she took off the 8,000 dollars that wasn't mine, closed out my account and yes anonymous in Pennsylvania it was before I paid them off. The other person who said it sounds fishy well, your fishy because everything I said was true.

Well, everything is fine now my credit card is paid off but even though it turned out ok in the long run, I'm not having anything to do with WalMart Discover.

Lehelen, I'm sorry but I don't buy your story. I agree with the other two authors. I don't feel you even tried to do what was necessary to make this work in your favor. The FIRST, and VERY FIRST thing you MUST do is call the credit card company and report the card as lost/stolen. This way, they can begin to help you sort things out. For instance:

I had a problem where someone hijacked my Capital One Platinum MasterCard. I called the Capital One Bank Fraud Services Department, who in turn suspended the account. The representative then went over the next steps with me. I called a separate number one week later, as told, and had documents faxed to me via an automated system. I was then informed after faxing the documents back that it would take up to 90 days to completely reverse the charges and get everything sorted out. In the interim, they sent a new card to me via UPS second day air and did not charge me for it. On exactly the 90th day from the date I faxed everything in, the issue was resolved and things were back to business as usual.

Credit card companies, as a rule of thumb, will NEVER close an account with a balance on it. You can suspend the account and keep additional charges from going on there. However, the interest, payments, and other details including annual fees and such will NOT STOP until you have paid the company every dime you owe.

So, you should have called GEMB's fraud department. Do not contact Discover Financial as they are the Licensor and not the Servicer of this card. Your contact is GE Money Bank of Florida. Call them, call their fraud department, and fix your problem the right way.

Wal-Mart Discover

People out there just don't like what you write. One says my report sounds fishy, I didn't give Discover enough information and I don't want to pay my bill.

What does she mean, it sounds fishy? If she would have read my report right, it states that I asked Discover several times to close out my account and they knew why. They also had all the pertinent background information that I could give them.

No, I am not trying to get out of paying my bill. I pay my bill every month on time. I just refuse to pay hers.

Another says, send Discover a letter. You can't close your account, they won't let you. You must know who this person is who took your identity. Look, I did file charges against her and Dioiscover. The only thing I know about this person is that she lives in California and by the way my account is closed until the investigation is over.

I will take care of this letter to Discover as soon as I receive my copy of the police report but I need a signature of the head of investigations to receive one. So you see, I am doing everything possible that I can do.

Sincerely,
Lehelen

Send a letter to Discover

I would send a certified, return receipt requested letter to Discover which includes a copy of the police report you filed for identity theft.

""I filed identity and fraud charges against her and had papers delivered to me to verify I had nothing to do with this. ""

I'm assuming you received a copy of the police report. It also seems that you know who made the fraudulent charges. Have you filed a civil suit against her? What were these "documents" you allege to have received?

"" I asked WalMart Discover 3 or 4 times to close my account and to my suprise, they never did. So guess what, she charged again..""

This is the fishy part of your ROR. Most credit card companies will not close an account that has an outstanding balance. What they will do when you call them and REPORT possible fraud or identity theft, is review all current and pending charges with you and transfer the legitimate charges to a NEW CC account and THEN close the old account. I know this first hand. In 2004 some bozo in NYC tried to hijack my VISA card. On the telephone, MBNA verified the legitimate charges, transferred them to a new account and closed the old account. I had a new VISA card in my hand by 10:30 the next morning (they Fed Exed it to me.)

You don't mention any review of the charges/pending charges with Discover in your post. Your report lead me to believe that you know who the person is who made these charges and that you simply asked them to close the account WITHOUT reporting the fraud/identity theft - they won't do that unless the account balance is zero.

You need to mail them a police report to prove that you really did file a criminal complaint.

Sounds fishy

Why did you simply "ask them to close your account." It sounds to me like you should have reported your card stolen so as to guarantee that the account would be suspended immediately and you would not be responsible for any additional charges. It does not sound like you indicated to the credit card company the serious nature of your request nor any pertinent background information leading up to it.

Sounds like someone is trying to get out of paying her bill.
