I was shopping at Walmart like I usually do every other day. This day was different though, I was looking at curtains in the window coverings isle. I was looking for specific colors and lengths so I opened a couple of packages! (by the way, there were about 20 different un-opened packages on the bottom shelf with curtains everywhere) I held up a few different styles of the same color and please note they were very similar. I then put them back in the packages and kept the one i wanted and was on my way to do more shopping. I caught up with my husband and 2 little nephews and decided to check out.

The cashier rung all my itens up and I paid $75.18 for everything and we were on our way. I was stopped by the GM at the door, she asked for my receipt. Then this little pierced up hyper retard grabbed the receipt and said" yup she did it she switched the curtains on purpose, she did it." At this point I am in shock, my husband is pissed and she is making a scene. He asked what are u talking about, she said I saw your wife open these curtains and switch them to get a better curtain for a cheaper price.

To show how stupid she was I paid 10.94 for the curtainI thought was the one, and the one I got was the 19.84 one and I didnt want that one anyways. I made a mistake, and said this isnt even the curtain I wanted. She in the meantime called the cops and I was taken in the back room for questioning. I didnt get to say much, but while I was waiting the freak was with the cop her friend might i add laughing and talking. Another cop came in and told me tell him the story. I did and he said why did u open these, they are the same color? I said I was checking the lengths.

They made me out to be a liar, said I changed my story and then he said.."well I saw the tape, I saw u looking at 2 curtain" I said your point is? Long story short they came back told me to stand up, put my hands behind my back, and they handcuffed me! The cop said the freak was issuing a citizens arrest on me, and because they were present they had to take me in. I was shocked and balling, I have never had anything more than a speeding ticket. I was being treated like a d**n criminal. They paraded me in front of all the store, while walking i heard the officers talking, and one said hey as far as the video, we'll just call that a he said she said to cover our own asses.

This is wrong, I was wrongfully accussed and humiliated in front of everyone. They put me in the car in FRONT of the store where everyone walks in and out for 40 minutes. My husband was given very little vague info on how to get me out and where to go. When I arrived to the jail I was then thoroughly searched,my shoes were taken, all my jewlery and belongings were taken, I was questioned and then asked to sign sataing I would not be allowed at any walmart than put in a holding cell. I was in there with 2 other ladies. I was then finger printed, photographed and then told I had to post $542.00 bail to get out. I had to use this phone that took forever to get ahold of my husband who now has been waiting for 2 hours, took my nephews to my parents house and now has to get cash from atms on a saturday after 5pm.

The limit on most ATM's is 300/day, he managed to get 450 total and I had to ask my parents for the rest. I finally was released after 7pm that night. This should have never happened and was the most horrifying experience I have ever had. I am afraid to go into any store for fear they will accuse me of something for which I have no proof. Walmart kept my merchandise I paid for as well as my receipt. I have a court date for 1 month from now. I will also pursue legal steps against walmart. I have also filed a claim. Any suggestions you might have I would appreciate!

Thanks for your words George. The items that were in fact opened were zippered packages. They make them this way to allow customers to open and see the contents. That was why there were over 15 opened packages laying around with curtains everywhere. There was nothing suspicious about checking color and length for a window. I never admitted to the packages being switched, I was ACCUSED of this and in fact the curtain was never even taken out to prove otherwise. To this day I dont know if in fact the curtain was wrong or not. The cop went on her word and only that. This is why I will fight them ALL and I will win! Be sure and look for my updates!

Hi Melanie,

If everthing you say is true, then you should fight it to the bitter end. But, I must say that opening various packages and removing the contents would certainly seem suspicious, and of course you admit that the contents were not returned into the proper wrappings when you were finished examining the items.

I have never been in a store which does not have all the pertinent information about a packaged item easily accessable on the outside of the package(this includes price, color, size, type of material, etc.etc.).

If you had looked a bit more carefully I am sure there would not have been any reason to have opened those packages. At least, you should have asked for assistance from a store employee if you were unable to obtain the information you needed to make a purchase.

Also, by opening all those packages you may have made them unsellable as most people will not purchase items which have already been opened. If you do get those charges dropped, then I sure hope that you have learned your lesson. "There is no reason to do something that looks suspicious, unless you are indeed doing something that is suspicious."

Good Luck,

Melanie
when you go to court, have an attorney, ask for a jury trial and make sure that the are walmart haters on the jury. AND sue the pants off them.
