WALMART & LIFETIME SERVICES EXTENDED SERVICE PLAN SCAM Internet

  • Reported By:

After purchasing an IPOD Touch for our daughter with a extended service plan for how well she  handled my year long deployment to IRAQ as a soldier from WALMART.COM...The touch screen developed a crack...go figure...it is a touch screen.

Since we had purchased the extended service plan from WALMART.COM, we made all the arrangements and shipped it to LIFETIME SERVICE for repair...to easy!!!

They returned the IPOD without doing anything with a generic letter stating the item had PHYSICAL DAMAGE...After speaking with several REPs from the company none of them can explain to us what would be covered on the device....other then to repeat the same statement over and over again....WE DO NOT COVER REPAIRS CAUSED BY ACCIDENTAL OR INTENTIONAL PHYSICAL DAMAGE.

************FROM WALMART.COM WEBSITE************************

We extend and enhance the manufacturer's warranty.
A Walmart Product Protection Plan often provides even more comprehensive coverage than the original manufacturer's warranty. Our coverage includes failures due to:

-Power surges (from date of purchase)
-Normal, everyday wear and tear
-Mechanical and electrical failure
-Environmental factors like heat, dust and humidity
-Defects in materials and workmanship

This plan gives you three full additional years of worry-free coverage after the manufacturer's labor warranty expires, so you are never left unprotected or paying for protection you already have.

*****************************************************************

Do not waste your money purchasing the EXTENDED SERVICE PLAN....they will do everything they can to make sure they never have to cover anything that can ever happen to your item other then take your MONEY!!!!! The terms of the service plan ensure that they can always get out of making good on anything!

Marketing vs. reality

The marketing of the plans is aimed at average, everyday people getting tricked by the wording used.  There is no, i repeat, no extended service plan where "normal wear and tear" is actually defined.   Yes, physical damage and cracks are not covered here - a crack just doesn't happen by itself.
On the other hand, you are made to believe that power surge coverage is important for items such as ipods, GPS units, cell phones, expresso makers - you get the point.
You are made to believe that the plans cover failure due to "heat, humidity," etc. when in the SAME booklet EXCLUSIONS include exposure to extreme heat (left in seat in car as sun beams through window), extreme heat (use at the beach), liquid damage (where is the line with humidity?).    Marketing is designed to trick.  Buyer beware.  Maintain your sanity and just NEVER buy an extended service plan, extended warranty, extended protection plan.
The odds are ALWAYS with the house - you get better odds in Vegas.

In todays day and age to drop a phone is now considered "normal wear and tear" ... check small claims ruling ...

Your warranty covers "normal wear and tear" cracking your screen is not normal wear and tear. Warranties wont cover accidental dropping or abuse to an item. Normal wear and tear would be something like a button starting to not work from using it too mich. No rip off here.

"Hey coast why don't you jump off a bridge" Because that's abuse and my body parts may not be covered under warranty.

Damage due to abuse is not covered under warranty. Not a rip off.
