I went to walmart tire express to get a oil change back in January last year and the same thing happened to me. My car started acting up and was running very rough. I was only getting a oil change, then two weeks later my low oil light was on and I was like what the heck, why is that coming on. My brother told me to check the oil and and it was empty. The dipstick was competely dried. To say the least I was very pissed. The engine could have blown up. The reason it did not was because there was enough oil in the engine block for it not to blow. I took it back to walmart they gave me a free oil change. but before I left i made sure there was oil in the car. I will not go back to walmart for car oil changes. The employees there are nothing but young kids that they hire out of school. I could have had a huge car repair and I was not happy.

You probably WILL have a "huge car repair bill", aka an engine rebuild...

Maybe not right away, but inadequate oil is really bad for engine longevity....

If there is no oil on the dipstick, it is best to NOT run the engine for any reason until the missing oil is replenished. And you really should check you engine oil (& other fluids) on a regular basis. After all, you are the person who will be inconvenienced by a failure and you are the person who will have to pay the resulting bills.

If you should hear some knocking in the future, it may not be someone at your door....
