Walmart Rude Crude and Very unacceptable managers Dalton georgia
I just moved into town and the bank gave me counter checks there was not a single grocery store in my area that would take these. So I call Walmart the switchboard lady switched me to services. I asked if they acccepted over the counter checks and I was told yes they did.
I drove 25 minutes to get there purchased $145.00 worth of groceries needed and at the check out the lady turns on her light and a manager comes up and looks at the check and very loudly and rudely says we don't accept these. I advised them I called and was told that they were accepted. She demanded a name and I told her services and that I did not think to get the persons name and she threw my check at me and told me to rip it up would be her job and people were in line behind me.
It was so embarrasing so I left my groceries sitting there and immediately found a main manager who kept saying he was sorry and that he would say something to the customer service manager, but he was in a hurry and had to go there was an emergency. What bugs me is that they were so rude and I wasted my time and gas to drive over there and they did not know what they were talking about. Last time I shop at walmart!

To Peter - Consumer Volunteer Advocate - Pony, Alabama about your comment about"What you did makes absolutely no sense!!! Wake up!! And get with the program!!!". I bet she did get with the program and you don't have a brain. I know that store and don't like it at all the manager don't care about the customers as i complained about how the employees are there and they still work there. both walmarts in dalton are a joke.i wish that the managers at both stores cared more about their customers. i think it's sick that all they think about is money

This is not a surprise since temporary checks have almost no info on them. Think about it, you write a $145.00 temporary check with nothing imprinted on it except for the account number and you expect a store to accept them?
The person you talked to over the phone probably did not know what an over the counter check was, as temporary check is a better term.
Next time, withdrawl cash. Those temporary checks really aren't good for much except paying utilities with, as most people don't use fraudulent means to pay those bills.

What you describe here is NOT a rip-off!
You say that you called Walmart and asked if the store accepted "over the counter checks." What exactly is an over the counter check?
I believe the correct term is "starter check." These are the checks issued by the bank upon opening a new account. These do not have names or addresses pre-printed on them, which is why most, if not all, stores do not accept them.
It sounds to me like you failed to properly word your question to Walmart. You did not clearly convey that these were "starter checks" and did not have any identification pre-printed on them.
Believe it or not, there are some people out there who will write a starter check out for $145 or even more, only for the store to cash it and find out that the starter check was fraudulent.
My question is ... why would you drive so many miles away to find a store that would supposedly accept your starter check, when it would have been much closer and easier to simply go to your local bank, withdraw money from your account, and then visit a store closer to your home, paying for your groceries with cash?
What you did makes absolutely no sense!!! Wake up!! And get with the program!!!
