Warning about Target Credit/Retailers National Bank

Hello,
I just wanted to let everybody know that Target will issue credit with any Social Security number. I don't think they even check. When my mother opened her account she didn't remember her number exactly but they gave her a card anyway! I found out they issued the card under the wrong number after I moved out and they changed my mother's address based on MY change of address form. I called them to correct the problem and they said that she had to call them before they could do ANYTHING.

I asked for a supervisor and he asked for my SSN and then tried to claim that it was my number on the account and that before they could change the address or even close the account my mother and I had to write to the three credit agencies and to their crediting department and show them proof of our real info. The guy LIED.

I called back cause it all just didn't sound right and the regular customer service agent told me that it wasn't my number or my mother's that was on the account. He also told me that it looked like the supervisor had quickly typed my number (incorrectly) in for reference. They finally did change the address back after they found out their mistake. Why would a company change someone's address without hearing from the person on the account? And furthermore why wouldn't they change it back after hearing what they problem was? It wasn't just with Target, Mervyns and Walmart also automatically changed my mother's address but the customer service reps with both those companies were very helpful and immediately fixed the situation once I pointed out the mistake.

One other warning about Target. I went in to apply for a card but it was a busy day and so I checked out before the manager on duty came back. Six months later I recieved a notice in the mail titled, "Important Notice For Our Cardholders." I never recieved a card so I assumed that they rejected my application. I called just in case there was a mistake and was told that I did in fact have an account!

hello, i have worked for target for almost 4 years now, 2 and a half of wich i have been a department manager, or team lead as we call it. i have had many people apply for the target card, and you MUST have a valid id and ssn to apply, w/o either, the computer will not accept the application and will come up with mail response. also, now we need to verify credit by checking to see if you have any other cards when you apply, and you must have one valid card or it will also come up mail response.

mail response is usually how we turn down people with bad or insufficient credit ratings. i understand you had an individual problem with the card, but you must remember, it is not target that is issuing the card, it only has our name on it, we are not the collection agency. RETAILERS NATIONAL BANK is the affiliate, and you should have words to say about them, not the target coporation.

we have nothing to do with the card except for our logo and a percentage of the profits from the bank thru "our" card comes to us.

also, we have nothing to do with the change of address. when you put in a change of address form thru the postal service, they notify some companys and they change your info accordingly. if their was a mix up with the addresses, you need to take it up with the us postal service as it was their fault for sending the ifo incorretly to the company.

and lastly, mervyn's is part of the target corporation, wich means you would have been talking to the same people who you implied were at fault for the whole address mess. and those people, once again, were retailers national bank, not target and not mervyn's. thank you for your time.
