took my Acer lap top to microcenter. the hard drive was bad. I had purchased extended warranty for 3 years from warrantech through microcenter. they sent it to them. Warrantech calls me and says not covered becuse they can see some sign of dampness had been on keyboard. The key board worked fine when i took it in the only thing wrong was hard drive. I had allready had it checked out by a tech friend at large computer builder in area and saw no reason to have to buy a new hard drive when i had purchased an extended warrenty. not only did they deny fixing it under the warranty they wanted $500 to fix it when I told them not to fix it they demand $ 100.00 to have them send it back to me not repaired the new hard drive is less than $100.00 to buy.

I am not alone with this problem the same store has at least 1 other customer with same type of complant. if you get on blogs it seams to be a loop hole that warrentech is using to deny meny extended warrenty clames. seems like a lot of laptop get wet when they go in for warrenty repair according to the blogs hmmmmm!! mine had been dry and keyboard worked before they got it!! do not buy extended warrenty from warrantec micro center is no longer selling warrenties from them. Rumered too meny mad customers.

Warrantech in most situations is the seller of the warranty, microcenter, which yes is no longer doing business with Warrantech is the guaranteer of the warranty. They are the ones that fix and or replace your product. And yes it clearly states in the warranty that if a trained technician finds the problems a result of your doing, they will not fix, or will fix for a cost. As you stated you took it to a friend, if they opened or removed anything from the laptop it voids the warranty. Any repairs or inspections must be by an approved microcenter/or contractor, to be able to be considered for repair. Remember Warrantech is the middleman, not the guaranteer of the warranty. Also what are you doing buying an acer anyways. Microcenter sales them currently for about 300 dollars, go buy a new one.
