First, don't rely on your online balance.

For WaMu or any other bank.

Second, keep an account register. Guess what. You get a register free with your checks.

Didn't get checks? Look online for a freeware program. If your computer came bundled with software you may have Quicken or MSMoney. Free.

Free means free of fees and charges when you are handling you account responsibly. By not keeping track of your account in your own register you are setting yourself up for NSF fees.

Use the free online banking for transfering funds between accounts and paying bills. That's what it's intended for.
