Washington Mutual, WaMu Paid for Credit Protection Insurance, Needed due to unemployment and DENIED Pleasanton California
I am in the process of seeking whatever legal help to overcome this travesty. I have been out of work for 7 months with little income but able to pay for 6 of those months regularly on my WaMu Visa. I had credit protection insurance in place in case of times like these.
After paying $184 to satisfy the April monthly payment I faxed to WaMu's Credit Protection Dept. their form to enact the insurance. Waited 10 days, no answer. Finally talked with a collections person who handed me off to Customer Service.
The gentlemen was nice at first, finding out what was holding this request in limbo. When he finally got the answer, his voice trembled and said something about 'denied due to involuntary unemployment'...that was EXACTLY why I bought the insurance protection in the first place!
In recent months WaMu also raised my interest to over 37% (illegal in CT as it is maximum 29.99%) and have done so even though I have been a longstanding pay on time person, and have paid large balances in full several times!!!
It's high time they pay for the abuses I have suffered, and I want restitution!

Washington Mutual (WaMu) Credit Protection, Pleasanton CA, Update on Denied Claim
#2Author of original report
Thu, May 24, 2007
I called WaMu Credit Protection last week to try to reason with their decision to deny credit protection due to my 'not claiming it when separation from work occurred 9/21/06'; the account had been paid regularly (and in fact was paid off at one point) during the unemployment period. However, chronic underemployment forced me in April to file for credit protection, whereupon I learned I was denied.
UPDATE: WaMu Credit Protection has 'bellied up' and approved 3 months credit protection (up to a period ending August 2007). However, I do not know if collections will ever get the message across the hall...they keep calling incessantly. I am faxing the credit information to them with a request to stop all calls immediately. They may be looking for more money in a May payment, which I do not owe as I filed this originally in April 2007 with payment arrangement made to satisfy. They may still be on the RIPOFF side of the house if this is not addressed to my satisfaction.
