Complaint Review: waterford lakes animal hosptial

waterford lakes animal hosptial, Waterford lakes animal hospital said that the reason they want all dogs boarding with them must have a flu shot costing $90.00 then your boarding. I asked why now for the canine influenza shot and the vet are said that other kennels in central Florida have had dogs with canine influenza. I Google this canine influenza and it started in south Florida NOT IN CENTRAL FLORIDA why LIE about this is it to make more money off the hard working people who love their dogs. And lie and make up stories about other kennels of having the canine influenza just to make a buck what will they do next how can you trust leavening your love one with them if they do this. orlando Florida

I am not affiliated at all with the animal hospital, but, when I read the complaint, I felt compelled to give a comment on personal experience.

I live in Waterford Lakes and my co-worker boards her furbaby every day so she is not home alone. Her furbaby contracted the canine influenza right here in Central Florida, not at Waterford Lakes Animal Hospital. I do not want anyone to think that this occurred at the WLAH location. Apparently, the "dog flu" is going around all over the state and country. It is not limited to South Florida.

I would prefer a boarding facility to require every single pet that is to be boarded at their facility to have proof of receiving the influenza immunization. If they do not have that requirement, I would avoid the facility.

As a responsible dog owner, your dog should be protected. I completely understand that not everyone has money lying around to spend on unexpected costs, however, canine influenze can be deadly and the cost for an emergency vet visit far exceeds the cost of the immunization.

Canine influenza virus (CIV) has been identified in 30 states and the most recent reports note this virus in 38 states.  CIV also is NOT a seasonal virus like the human flu. CIV is highly contagious and can lead to pneumonia which can be life threatening. We at  Waterford Lakes Animal Hospital think it is very important to try and protect our patients under circumstances of greatest risk of infection such as with boarding.

CIV vaccine is a 2 shot vaccine series given 2 to 4 weeks apart.  The CIV vaccine is not considered a core vaccine and is only required if boarding your pet at our hospital.  The cost for the 2 vaccine series is $44 not $90.   Please check out this link from the University of Florida College of Veterinary Medicine  to get better information about CIV http://sheltermedicine.vetmed.ufl.edu/library/tools-tips-fact-sheets/canine-influenza/.
