Weather Shield Contracting, Inc., is a remodeling and roofing contractor in the Twin Cities area. They advertise services in installing roofing, gutters, windows and doors, siding, landscaping, interiors and additions, and handyman services all around Minneapolis and Saint Paul, Minnesota.

I hired Weather Shield a couple years ago to replace the roof and a window on my residence after it sustained hail damage. After replacing the roof (and collecting from my homeowner's insurance) Weathershield stated at the last minute that they would not replace the broken window, as "it was not profitable" for them to do that part of the job. This, despite the fact that the window job was included in their cost estimate, and the fact that Weathershield would make a tidy profit on the entire job. Weathershield did reimburse me for the window part of the job (about $300), but I had to seek out another contractor to do that job, which took a significant amount of my time to arrange.

The next spring, during snow melt, I noticed a leak from the roof that seeped onto the ceiling. Eventually, there were 3 wet spots in my ceiling, each several inches in diameter. These areas become wet every time there is a prolonged rain or any snow melt. I have tried to contact Weather Shield, but the proprietor, Erik C. Wilson, never returns calls. I have made several attempts to contact Mr. Wilson, but to no avail. I have left messages with other staff at the company, but have yet to receive any calls back.

I am now in the process of making another claim with my homeowner insurance carrier to re-repair the roof and will let them go after Weathershield. In addition, I had a candid conversation with my insurance agent, who told me that the insurance company has had "several quality issues" with Weather Shield.

It is difficult to find a reputable roofing contractor. But one would be well-advised to avoid Weather Shield, Inc.

Weather Shield Contracting, Inc. only seems interested in customer satisfaction when faced with adverse publicity.

We have already solved the problem by using a different Twin Cities-area contractor. So thanks, but no thanks, Weathershield Contracting, Inc.

But let's take a look at Weather Shield's lame rebuttal here...

Weathershield Contracting's so-called "rebuttal" is nothing more than damage control in response to seeing a bona fide customer complaint. The company's spin doctors are scrambling to dampen the effects of the true story we posted. They don't like the publicity, they can't handle the honest criticism, and they appear to be amenable only after receiving a publicized bad rating from an unhappy customer. Funny how Weather Shield Contracting didn't act so amenable in the past when we were just another customer. They didn't seem terribly motivated when we tried to work with them to solve their shoddy quality issues. Cripes, they wouldn't even talk to us! But of course, they had already cashed our check and didn't need us anymore. We didn't have any bargaining power then. I guess our post on Ripoff Report got their attention.

And the feeble, insincere response by the company is disingenuous. Weather Shield's righteous indignation over our valid complaint is laughable.

We stand by our original review 100%. We continue to maintain that Weather Shield Contracting in St. Paul, Minnesota is a dodgy roofing company with a poor track record and substandard workmanship. Weathershield Contacting should be avoided. Don't be their next victim.
