On August 31, 2008, I was directed to Web Detective, during my search for my lost sister. The search itself was FREE and it came up with a few different choices for names.

I found the name which corresponded to relatives I knew associated with her so I clicked.

I was directed to a page that had 3 different paying options. I selected the cheapest, 1 name search, 1 time fee only option of $2.95 because it showed that was the person I was looking for.

I entered my credit card information, double checking to make sure I was not going to sign up for something I didnt want.

It was very confusing to find the information and to gain access to it after I paid. I kept getting redirected to other sites.

I finally got a report that gave me no information other than old addresses. Nothing current, and no phone numbers. I immediately felt ripped off and never went back to the website.

On 9-8-08 I checked my online banking and found a pending charge for $37.00. There was no information at that time telling me who it was by.

On the morning of 9-9-08, I checked my online account again and the charge went through. I saw that it was a DONVALE charge which matched the info on the original $2.95 charge from 8-31-08.

I was shocked to see an unauthorized charge of $37.00 to my card, plus a foriegn transaction fee of $1.11. But then, I noticed another pending charge right after that one, of yet ANOTHER $37.00 waiting to clear from the same people.

I printed out my online statement and I immediately contacted my bank in person when they opened and was given a phone to call an 800 number to dispute the charges.

The customer service person told me I had to contact the merchant and dispute the charge directly with them, and if they refused to reverse the charges, I was to get a name and reason why. Then I was required to bring back that information to the bank because I had given the merchant my number previously. Which is why they couldnt do anything.

I called the number on my statement for the merchant and found out they dont do phone support. Only email. So I emailed support explaining exactly what had happened, and asked them to reverse the double charge.

I immediately received a form letter statig it had been received.

I then emailed them to cancel any and all unauthorized subscriptions that may be associated with my name and credit card number, and forwarded my dispute email to them as well.

I received a standard form email immediately, stating my subscription had been canceled.

Then I started to research and found ripoffreport.com and will be taking the actions against all parties, as suggested by the editor in response to a couple who had already reported webdetective - razor-eyemedia.

I even told the bank a scenario in question format, that I could go into Pennys and buy a pair of jeans using my credit card. Then, two weeks later, a cashier from the store could use my number to buy stuff. But that because I'd given the cashier my number previously to buy 1 pair of jeans, that they, the bank, wouldn't do anything about it, so I'd be out any and all money used without my permission? The customer service lady said, "yes". WHAT?

I will fight this because this is wrong. I did nothing wrong other than trust webdetective/razoreye and whatever other names they go by. Because of the fact that there are two identical charges back to back, I feel I may have a leg to stand on while proving that this company rips people off and I will go to the media if required and the charges are not reversed.
