I inquired on line to Phyllis Mikesell about kittens. She responded saying she had 2 ragdoll-persians, registered, 4 months, playful and were looking for a good home, $500 if I took both. I have copies of her emails to me.

When I arrived in Calgary I was told I could not have the papers because she gave me such a good deal. By the time she told me this the kittens were in the car and I had paid. She did not mention that the kittens were sick and that she would not honor her guarentee. She told me they would sneeze as they adjust to the new air in my home. They sure did! Then came thick infected nasal discharge. I have no record of the "shots" they were given other than the dates. The vet informed me that they were not given at the proper times so that they were most likely non effective.

I have now spent over $600 on vet bills for one kitten, and after interventions she is still coughing, sneezing and full of discharge from her nose. The second kitten is beginning to sneeze. We visit the vet again today.

Phyllis had written and told me they were registered, prior to purchase. I had both kittens spay. When I challenged her and said that I wanted her to honor her commitment, she said she had to send to the states to get their papers and that she would send them to me.

Now, I get no response to my emails asking for help with the vet bills and the registration papers.

And, I have one very sick kitten and perhaps a second beginning to become sicker.

Finally, I have a wonderful 19 year old cat. Phyllis and I talked a lot about her and how to help her adjust. I am very upset that any cat lover would knowingly allow the possibility of an infection to be given to such an old, vulnerable cat. Phyllis claims that she did not know the kittens were sick. However, she did tell me that they would sneeze, because of the air.

What do I do at that point?

Almost Made a Terrible Mistake

I have recently been in contact with Phyllis as I was interested in purchasing one of her cross breeds- a Ragdoll/Persian. She was very pleasant in her email, and I was just going to make the arrangements to buy a new kitten when I noticed these reports. I've recently lost a dear ragdoll cat, and I was very eager to get a new kitten. I am so grateful for this information, and it saddens me so much that there are so many sick kittens that have been brought home by excited new pet owners from this cattery. I am so surprised by the amount of complaints filed against this woman, and I am so upset that she continues to breed cats. Thank you for sharing your story, you've stopped me from making a grave mistake.
