I just read a report from California, I am going through the exact same thing right now, I get paid every week, and I either get a direct deposit, or nothing, so Wells Fargo knows they have got me by the neck, and of course they keep making up all of these new rules because they put me on this "Oppertunity Checking".

I went along my merry way making debit point of sale purchases, because all other banks will deny if the money is gone, but no not wells fargo. I am not saying I don't owe them any money, I have figured out that I owe them $104.22, but they are now saying that because of these overdraft fees, I owe $361.90.

I have already canceled my direct deposit, but they will be thinking they are getting their money tomorrow, I have news for them. I will be reporting them to my District Atty, the BBB, and I will be contacting the local news people, we have a few very good reporters here that live to expose this kind of crap.

I suddenly had some debit charges show up this week from like two weeks ago, things from companies I know do not hold debit's, like Wendy's, and McDonalds, I have caught Wells Fargo in the act, so I hope they are prepared for the hail storm I am about to bring.

Check Registers are easy to use

I have previously worked in banking and have a pretty extensive knowledge as to how banks work. First of all judging by the name of the account being Opportunity Checking I am going to go out on a limb and say that you either have a Chexsystems record or just terrible credit, possibly both. I am willing to assume that Wells Fargo took a risk at giving you an account in the first place. A word to the wise... NO BANK DECLINES THE PURCHASE IF THERE ARE NO FUNDS! How do you think that they make money?

I am sure that when you signed the dotted line upon opening the account there was something in there stating that you agreed to pay overdraft fees. I just looked up the Consumer Account Agreement for Wells Fargo online and their overdraft charge is $34 per transaction made in the negative that is why you are so far in the red.

Good luck with the BBB, your district attorney and the news. Wells Fargo has every right to charge fees when you overspend. And just a hint... the charges that take longer to show up are the fault of the merchant not the bank. The best thing to do is learn how to use a check register, you will never have another overdraft fee because those delayed charges would already be written down in your register.

My best guess is that since you have this second chance account you will not be able to get much other than that if you decide to not pay Wells. If you let your account get charged off you will be even more screwed.
