I had very bad experiences at the stores at 15th Avenue South and 4th Street South in south St. Petersburg, Florida. I complained to the corporate website and was contacted by Shelley Lewis, the District 51 manager. My initial order at the 15th St. store was shorted and poorly prepared. Ms. Lewis emailed me that she would provide 2 free combos as replacement.

I went to the 4th St. South store and this is where my horror story starts. I was treated like "white-trash" by the all-black counter servers, the Baconator had just 21/2 slices of bacon instead of the 6 stated on the menu board, a scrap of lettuce and a swipe of mayo. My triple with cheese looked like the patties had been sitting in the warmer trays for an hour, all dried-out and dark brown; the onions were stringy and tough like they'd been out of the cooler all day long. I was served soggy, limp fries that had also been in the warmer too long. When I asked for fresh order of fries, Sonya told me, "They look fine to me." And, "If you don't like our fries, you probably won't like our sandwiches." She was right! The Burgers were pure junk. I had to bag my own order after Sonya was told it was "to-go" instead of dine-in. While bagging my own order, she huffed, "You gotta get out of the way for these other customers!"

I e-mailed Ms. Lewis back with this horror story and she wanted me to go back to the scene of the crime and roll my dice with this crew again!! I was insulted and humiliated. I pursued the proper channels of procedure with Wendy's and got the Big Screw.

I'll never go back to a minority-operated Wendy's in south St. Petersburg ever again. You shouldn't either if you don't want to get ripped-off or mistreated. These Wendy's people are obviously very poorly trained and could care less. I was offered a mere "Baconator" combo by Ms. Lewis if I went back to the place where I got raped. No Way!

I'm an old pro at these problems

Yes, an old pro. I'm not familiar with Florida, but I am familiar with inner-city fast food places...and the types that 'run' them. You cannot get good service at such franchises. You may feel very uncomfortable while there, and feel as if you are about to get mugged. That's because "Jo-Jo" or whatever "McManager" is running the joint that day has the only job in an apartment of 15 other welfare monkeys. And that crew of low-lifes is very likely hanging out in the lobby if it isn't the first of the month, and they're waiting on Jo-Jo to throw them a burger, or they've forgot when payday is and they don't want to miss her getting her check. And if the burgers aren't flowing, they might just jump you for some money...or that nice watch. That's their game, invade your personal space repeatedly to make you numb to the invasiveness of it all. Then, when you least expect it, that's when they pick your pocket, or all-out get the jump on you, taking everything you have by brute force, or sexually assaulting you. The workers are of a different breed...they've become used to living with gluttonous rabid dogs that clamor and fight for every bite. They feel they must be hostile to you in order to defend themselves.

Sometimes you must realize that you can take the tiger out of the jungle, but you can't take the jungle out of the tiger.

Not a whole lot to be done about it if you're not of their type. Definitely call corporate, call upper management. And then try to avoid the place if you can. The sweetest revenge will be when all the nice people with cash start to avoid the place, and it has to shut down, then Jo-Jo has to go get a real job, and behave like she's not in the jungle. Try as she might, Jo-Jo won't be able to get the credit card reader to accept the food stamp card from her relatives and neighbors. And thank you for posting, perhaps some proper folk can be forewarned and save themselves the trouble.

#4Consumer Comment

I have been experiencing customer service issues at two Wendy's locations, one in St. Petersburg on 4 St N just south of Gandy Blvd. and another on Park Blvd. east of 49 St N in Pinellas Park.  I wanted to get something for dinner to take home but every time I have been going there this is what I have been experiencing:

1.  Drive thru servers who violate your personal space by reaching into your vehicle when they hand you your order.  These drive thru servers have no right to put any part of their body whatsoever into my vehicle, and this includes a hand holding my order in the bag.

2.  Lack of pleasantries or common courtesy from Wendy's staff directed towards customers including me.  I believe these servers are taught from management to be hostile and rude to customers no matter what.  Seems like a 7-Eleven style of management operates within Wendy's from what I experienced.

Also, the experience you described at the Wendy's on 4 St S and 15 Av S south of downtown St. Petersburg is also true.  I went there one time on my lunch break (I had an extended lunch break) and I got an order of medium fries, only to find that I got an extremely small order - I was ripped off!  I asked the manager on duty and she got very defensive and argumentative for no reason.

Let me tell you, if Wendy's wants to stay in business it needs to be more responsive to customer needs including courtesy of management and counter staff towards customers.  If discourtesy and rudeness is a part of Wendy's attitude towards the public then Wendy's will eventually go out of business and join the ranks of retailers that have gone out of business such as Circuit City.  Moreover, I have a choice and I will stop going to Wendy's until their customer service improves.

One more thing:  To those Wendy's store managers that may read this Rip-Off Report on Wendy's and this consumer comment, as to your drive thru (pick up window) procedures it may be your restaurant but please show respect for people's private property - which is my vehicle and everyone else's that go through the drive thru - by not reaching your hands into our vehicles!
