First time buyer of a new car spent 6 hours at wesley chapel honda getting approved for my first new car. After I got my insurance I was told that I was approved and here is your beautiful new Honda civic!!! I was so excited they told me my payment would be higher because I was a first time buyer I agreed to the higher payment after driving the car for 30 days I received a call telling me I was never approved and I would have to bring back the car or pay a even higher payment get a co-signer and put $2500.00 down. Is this some kind of sales scam used in Florida on first time buyers?

ALTER the CREDIT APPLICATION and deceive the bank by RAISING YOUR INCOME, or even making-up a new JOB TITLE that gives the bank the illusion that the buyer is better qualified than he or she really is.

The rebutttal by the dealership does not make sense I have sold cars for over 15 years and have never even taken an application for credit without the customer having credit and more importantly a income. You state the buyer had neither
that really smells funny to me. No dealership I have ever worked at would sell a vehicle without making some money otherwise the deal would never get approval by the manager in charge.
This sounds and smells like YOYO financing which I believe is a illegal practice in the State of Florida regardless of the 30 days. Sounds to me like you have some more explaining to do!!!

"Everyone assumes that a dealership is always making money when they sell a car"
You crack me up. When I worked at a dealership, the sales staff always told the gullible customer that they had made no money on the sale. In reality, a sale that did not make a substantial profit for the dealership was never allowed to go through.
The day you convince me that dealerships process sales that result in a net loss, will be the day I have an ice skating appointment in hell. It just doesn't pass the smell test.

As stated on the Florida Law contract, the dealership has a term of 30 days to secure finance of the consumers loan, at the end of that term, if we can not find a lender to purchase your loan, we have the right under law to cancel the contract and ask for the car to be returned, it has been less than 30 days and we are asking only for you to secure a co-signer OR the bank will finance a lower amount, so we will contribute by lowering the price of the vehicle, but we need your help by adding a 2500 down into the deal so the bank will feel comfortable in loaning a person with no credit and no real income the money needed to purchase the car. In addition....
1st... To clarify, the statement "YOURE APPROVED" was never stated. As we discussed at the time, we explained due to the fact that you had no credit, and you had no one in your life that could help as a co-maker, it would be a little difficult to get the bank to lend you the money, but both myself and the finance director would work to get your final approval.
2nd...The amount of time spent in the dealership was on your shoulders, it always take longer when a customer wants to buy a 30,000 car for 20,000 dollars. The length of time spent in a dealership is totally on the shoulder of the customer.
3rd. Everyone assumes that a dealership is always making money when they sell a car. Lets look at it from a mathematical standpoint. The dealership buys a car at 18,702 as in your case, the MSRP is $19340 and I sell the car at $15,326, now explain to me how we are making a profit. Also, explain to me how we are not being fair. If a customer pays the MSRP, the dealership makes money, if I sell a car under cost, as in this case.
4th. WE HAVE THE CAR LOAN APPROVED, the only condition the bank is asking, and I say BANK, not us, is $2500 in addition, because the loan approval amount is for 16,000 after tax, tag, title and fees. I even contributed additional monies on our behalf to get the bank to say yes. The days of a consumer walking into a dealership and buying a car with no money down is over. For years the banks gave customers all they asked for, those days are over, in case you didn't know, I am sure the last year of economic turmoil proves this.
5th. Here is my final statement. This may sound unfair, but the truth always hurts I loose money for one reason and one reason only, to help the customer and build my customer base. It has to make sense, so lets look at it from my point. I have a salesman that has not sold a car all day, he meets you and finds out you want to spend a certain amount every month on a car payment. He shows you the cars that you can afford; you dont like them because you want more for less. So the manager, myself in this case, makes a decision to loose some money so you can be happy and we can gain a customer, we inform you of all the options and choices, we agree on a number after 6 hours of chasing you around the dealership and the lot looking for a car you can afford. We spend 20 days not 30, working with 11 different banks that felt comfortable loaning you the money, even with no credit and no income, in essence we spent 20 days begging the bank to give you a chance. We finally get a yes, and then we explain to you what the bank wants, an instead of saying thank you for helping get you approved and working hard for you, you post this negative post. Why should I continue to try to help? Why not just say, never mind, we can not get you approved and I need you to bring the car back thats what I should do, but I gave you a chance to build your credit, I sold you the car at a huge loss, and I spent 20 days of my life working for you not AGAINST you. It seems to be, you are being a little unfair to us. I would be so surprised if for once a customer would show a little consideration for the work we do for you. I have only been in the car business for 3 years, and I have never ripped a customer off, I have never treated anyone unfairly, and I have never tried to take advantage of a customer. As, we discussed when you where here, I am here to help, even though I am loosing money so who is right and who is wrong?

They did what is known as "spot" delivery. This is where they let you take the car off of the lot in the hopes that they find financing somewhere. The problem is that 99% of the time they know you will not get financed at the terms they gave you.
Now, generally they will call you after 2 or 3 days, so 30 is definitely longer than usual. They say they need you to come in and re-sign some papers, or some other false pretense. When you arrive they take the keys, telling you that you were not approved. Then the only way to keep the car is to sign a loan at a higher rate and/or downpayment. They do this in the hopes that you like the car so much by then that you will sign.
This is why you NEVER take the car off of the lot until you have a loan agreement with the lender information filled in. Also, make sure that what you sign is what they told you. As even 1 second after you sign the only thing that matters is what is in writing and not what they told you.
As to your situation if you are a first time buyer, you are going to find it hard if not impossible to get approved without a fairly good sized downpayment and co-signer. So any dealer that says otherwise is also probably lying.
