I was formerly employeed with West Corp. I saw numerous instances of unfair treatment as far as intimidation and humiliation. Then was a victim of it myself recently. I was an operations Supervisor at West and saw a lot of unfair malicious things happen. Management does not follow any rules what so ever. They cuss, threaten, yell, slam doors and act very unprofessional but if any employees were to behave in that manner they would be fired on the spot. They change the rules if you are a good seller, they change the rules if they do not want a certiain person to succeed and proceed up the corporate ladder or also if they DO want a certain person in a particualr role. I have seen them fire people for something and then find out that it was not true. I have seen them fire people and then find out it was a computer problem. I have seen some employees get 3 downgrades whne only one is allowed. I have heard management say.."we need to find something that will stick" when wanting to get someone termed. Managers have had affairs with supervisors and agents and each other......everyone is terrified there and they hire low income people that will do whatever to keep their jobs and then if they are treated bad or wrongly terminated, they can not afford to defend themselves. They are constantly preaching different things that have to be done a certain way to be EOE AA qualified but then management does not adhere to the things themselves. They do have a woman who works in Employee Relations, but employees have been yelled at for coming to her without an appointment and then she took them to the manager that they were having a problem with in the first place and he yelled at them and said "I am the boss and what I say goes!". Her office is on one of the production floors so that everyone working in there knows who is going into her office and as soon as it gets to the manager, it will get taken out on you one way or another. I was with West for 10 months and had been saying for the last few months that I felt like they were going to fire me and I would not even know why, because of the things I had seen, heard and that had been done to me. In the end that is exactly what happened and has happened to other employees too.

I used to work for West. That place had so many supervisors with attitude problems, were EXTREMELY strict with the "Average Joes", so to speak. But when supervisors or their "pets" did mistakes it was always pardoned!

Also, the way the have customer services care reps set up with their systems doe not work! The way they have it set up does not allow employees to get their job done right to keep the job.

For example, the time limit for each call is about 10 minutes, but West knows that there's alot of d**n gold diggers calling to try and get credits all the time. And these d**n gold diggers will stay on the phone sometimes over an hour insisting they get credits, even if they don't qualify and the whole thing is that you can't hang up on them.

I'm not racist, but ABSOLUTELY most of these gold diggers are black people! Then when you keep saying "no, you don't qualify for any further credits" they demand to speak with a supervisor. Then when you raise your hand to get a supervisor, supervisors are standing around, chatting, and giggling and they've even taken up to thirty minutes to get to your call!

That's why West is a very unfair employer and things should really change!

AS FOR ALL OF YOU d**n GOLD DIGGERS OUT THERE THAT CALL AT&T CUSTOMER SERVICE SIMPLY TRYING TO GET CREDITS, EVEN THOUGH YOU KNOW YOU WON'T QUALIFY, CUT THAT OUT! BECAUSE OF LOWLIVES LIKE YOU THAT WANT PARTIAL OF YOUR BILL PAID FOR JUST BECAUSE, YOU'RE CAUSING MANY AMERICANS TO LOSE THEIR JOBS AND HAVING NO FOOD TO PUT ON THEIR TABLES!

GOLD DIGGERS! GET A LIFE! PAY FOR YOUR OWN d**n BILL AND STOP TRYING TO GET CREDITS ALL THE TIME! FYI... GOLD DIGGERS! IN WEST THE CUSTOMER CARE REPS CAN SEE HOW OFTEN YOU'VE ASKED FOR CREDITS! YOU'RE NOT SLICK!

I am currently an employee at west in erie, and have witnessed all the items mentioned here and more. I have personally participated in the process of ushering certain individuals into new positions as well as "making something stick" to other individuals. There is a ops supervisor who tries to hide her incompetence and lackluster performance with bullying and intimidation. Anyone who has worked there in the last few years will know exactly who i speak of. This same supervisor is perpetuating a hostile work environment and every complaint that ive witnessed or had to file paperwork on (well over 30 instances that ive been a party to) have gone ignored. Its commonplace for agents to be targeted and then worked out of their jobs by getting every call reviewed and inevitably find some fault. There is childish and petty bickering between the departments and even amongst supervisors on the same line groups. The friends of upper management are given certain immunities and are even encouraged to perpetuate the bad blood amongst certain staff. The individuals claiming possible EOE AA violations are the same ones who are violating it every day. Management purposefully keeps supervision and team leads in the dark in many situations and then blame the team leads or agents when they have failed because of the lack of information. in short, west continues to be a hostile working environment that somehow still has its doors open in erie, despite no possibility of its revenue necessitating its existance.

Employee Relations and Management

I think the best way to deal with Employee Relations is to deal with them diplomatically, but in strictly equal terms. Go in as a supllicant, not only is it possible you won't get what you want, but they probably won't respect you either: I want both.

Whilst working for West in Tulsa, I was looking to get back to school, as well as spend some time with family and friends, but my schedule seemed to prevent this from happening in a way that I would have preferred. Meanwhile, I saw people in the clique who got whatever schedule they wanted, and to my mind, I didn't think that pursuing a favorable quality of life was a privelege exclusively doled out to those considered "politically reliable" but more of an inalienable right. So I decided, hey, I'm gonna get what I think I've got a legitimate right to.

Tried taking the matter to Scheduling, but the best they could offer was a day shift, without consecutive days off, and not weekends off as I'd originally
wanted. The person who drafted up the schedule seemed kinda squirrelly to me, and I figured that I wouldn't have even gotten this schedule-or any other changes to my schedule- if I hadn't been looking over her shoulder the whole time.

So I took the matter to HR. Had this self-satisfied acting Employee Relations Coordinator in Tulsa, talked to me like I had the mind of an 8yr old while justifying the company's position, until I rose to the challenge, reasonably outlined my case and credibly pointed out the discrepancies of such a position. Finally, she backed down a few minutes later, and "approved" my request. Had to stand over that person in scheduling to make sure she got it done on her end, but I did enjoy those weekends off from thereon.
