warning! If you are moving - DO NOT use this company!
I paid $4,670.00 for a 20 foot container to be shipped from san diego to hawaii. West Point Relocation (Frank and Eli) tried to get me to share a 40 foot container with another customer at a reduced fare. I told them I wanted my own 20 foot container for better security. We agreed on a 20ft container and they assured me their driver would put a "seal" on the doors at the time of pick up. We also agreed that they could store my container up to 2 months if needed at no charge (as long as they used their company owned container). A 20 ft container with "West Point Relocation" was delivered to my home in San Diego on 3/9/2009. After 2 days - West Point called to say they needed their chassis (trailer under the container) back right away. I told them we agreed that I could have the container for all week plus the week end. I ended up paying $170.00 extra for a saturday pick-up. When their driver hooked up his truck, I asked him to put a "seal" on the doors. He said he did not have any seals or even use them.I put my own pad lock on to secure the doors.I arrived in Hawaii on 3/18/2009. On 3/20/2009 Eugene called to say he needed to charge me if I wanted to store the container any length of time. I told him "DO NOT store the container - deliver it now. I faxed him the address for delivery. He told me it would take 3 to 3 and a half weeks to get it to my home. After a dozen phone calls - the container was delivered on 3/14/2009 (exactly 2 months). The trucking company delivered a 45 foot container. Now I Know why it took so long. West Point Relocation took all my carefully packed belongings a transferred them to a longer 45 ft "shared' container. I should have known there was a problem when Eeugene told me they needed room for a 48 ft trailer. He was going to charge me extra if my driveway was not long enough. He said they use a longer trailer even if the container is only 20ft long.I unloaded the container - I was glad to see only some plastic containers were damaged. I called West Point Relocation and told them I expected compensation for the 2 month wait and I paid full price for a secure 20ft container. Frank told me I could go throgh their claims department, but I was wasting my time. He offered me $100.00 refund on my credit card.I learned that Matson shipping would have had an customs agent put a seal on their container at my house if I had used Matson shipping. I learned the hard way - DO NOT trust the people at West Point Relocation.
