Two days ago I received a threatening voicemail from "Victor" who said I had 24 hours to respond to his call or be sued for fraud. That is all he said, other than leaving an 800 number. I had no idea what this person was talking about, so I called the number and heard a recording say they were Westbury ventures. I hanged up, Googled the company name, and saw reference after reference to the low-life tactics this company uses to harass people. Apparently they are linked only to PayDay Loan companies. I have not used one of those services since 2003, four years ago! And I definitely paid my loan back to the company (CashAdvance they were calling themselves back then), at the APR of 650% (yes that's right, %650 APR). They electronically debited my checking account and then never stopped even when the loan was paid. I learned my lesson then not to ever, ever deal with such companies again. I had to file bankruptcy in October of 2004. I hgave read that these disreputable companies either share information or sell it to others, or it could simply be that what is now Westbury Ventures used to call themselves CashAdvance. Who knows. All I know is that, I went immediately to my credit union to tell them of this threat to my account, they told me not to worry, and lo and behold this morning I saw that $390 had been electronically withdrawn by Westbury Ventures. I ran back to the creidt union, told them what I had discovered, they put a stop payment on the withdrawal, returned my $390 to my account, had me sign an affidavit to certify I had never given automatic debit authority to westbury ventures, and thqat's where we stand today. but this has me totally unnerved. If they are clever and nasty enough to try and pull this within 48 hours, and they have my account info, what is to stop them from trying to access my account through another fictitious name? I belong to a US Gov't credit union and for whateveer reason, they refuse to change my account number, they would rasther I monitor any illegal activity and inform them of anything suspicious. At least I stopped Westbury Ventures this time around. Does anyone else have any advice on not only how to deal with these creeps but perhaps help put their illegal operation out of business?
