I used the western union website to send money to my wife and 3 children traveling in Brasil, South America. The website says the money is ready to pick up in minutes with a "national ID card". My wife HAS a brazilian national ID card AND a brazilian passport, both are photo ids. She makes a special trip to a town that has a "western union representative". The people at the bank would not release the money, they said she needs proof of residency. WHAT THE HELL!!!!!! She is traveling as a tourist, how the hell is she going to show residency????
The western union website makes no mention of this. It says all you need is the transfer control number and photo ID. What a big fat lie.
Now my wife is stranded with 3 kids while I try to figure out how to get some money to her.
Western union is not telling the whole truth on their website. They just want to get their exhorbant fees, and then they are no help when you call the support line. They tell you,"try a different western union rep". What a bunch of lies.

I would recommend that you DO NOT use western union for money transfers.

Again, stay away form western union, my first and only experience with them has been horrible based on the false information on their website.
