Nov 2013 i talked to Jackie Poland of Westwood College in Woodridge Il, she informed me that the accrediation for the Medical Assiting Program ACICS was enough to take the CMA Exam, a test you must pass to enter the workforce needed by today's employers. I informed her i did my homework and know for a fact that i need a CAAHEP / ABHES accrediation to take the exam as i found from the exam website itself. She told me she hates when people are misinformed by other colleges and that the ACICS is enough. I told her it isn't even mentioned on the website, she told me she does not have to defend her school and i can talk to any big wig there ( she rattled off names as if i was supposed to be impressed or knowledgable of who they are) i said it doesn't matter who i talk to and yes you should defend your school if you want me to attend it. She declared laughing that it's accredited that they have such and such percentage graduates per year that they place in jobs , the fact here is it's untrue and if i would have sunk money i do not have and time i really do not have into this insituion i would have used every cent for the rest of my life to take them down suing them, how is this college allowed to lie?

Yes, luckily i am older now and took the time to look into the facts, i can see how someone would easily be fooled since the woman i spoke to plain out lied to me stating everything was fine and that i COULD take the exam. Most people wouldn't question someone at a colllege thinking they would certainly not be allowed to lie about something like this and still be open for business.  I hope others see this post and realize the facts as i have.

Way to go!  A student has finally done her homework BEFORE getting screwed.

There are big differences in types of accreditation. ACICS accredits career-oriented schools and is nationally recognized. But as the poster states, this is NOT enough to sit for a professional exam, and rarely is.  You typically need a school that is regionally accredited AND has program accreditation.

Great post. I hope others avoid the same pitfalls you did.
