Wexford Financial Lending Group loan scam Norwalk Connecticut
Nana's post (dated June 4 2008) alerted me to Wexford's scam. I had made the inquiry on June 2 and, finding no report of a scam on the net, started dealing with this company. I called simply to make a report on a real estate transaction and to ask Wexford to hold the loan open pending a closing, only to find the phone number (877) 884-1630 being answered with the words, "good-bye" and the fax number no longer working.
In the past three hours this is what I have learned: 1) The CT BBB lists this company doing business as a "loan scam." 2) The Company asks clients to forward two months' payments in advance. This sounds reasonable, expect that it is forbidden by CT law. 3) Wexford wanted to get the funds from me via an unknown shipper that operates out of Wal-Mart stores. Wexford did not want to have Merrill Lynch wire a check. The reason given for this seemd gobbledygook-ish to me at the time. 4) The money is promised within 24 hours. Nana reports nothing ever came to her. 5) Canadian Cargo Parcel Service, the alleged shipper of the funds, does not exist. 6) I am certain Wexford's loan officer, "Jeremy Norton," did not go by his real name. He slipped, picking up the phone once. He answered "This is Jeffrey...I mean Jeremy." 7) In addition to telling your story about Wexford here, file a report with the Connecticut Dept of Banking, 260 Constitution Plaza, New Haven, CT 06103. (860) 240-8299.
Now I've got to go loan shopping again from scratch. Caveat emptor!
