I took out a title loan on my car in May of 2013. The man came to my house looked at my car, got on his laptop ,talked to someone, told me they would loan me the money I wanted. He had me sign a contract on his tablet, he told me they would send me the contract in the mail, which I never recieved. I made all of my payments over the phone with my credit card. Every time I called to make the payment i asked where the paperwork was never did get a straight answer. I always wrote down the balance so that I knew exactly how much I owed. took down the person's name that took the payment. The last 3 times I called to make my payment they couldn't find my name I had to use my social security number, which kinda freaked me out but I figured this company was legit so never worried. Made my last payment and ask how long before I got my title back I was told 4-6 weeks. It has been 3 years now that I have been trying to get ahold of someone for my title. All the numbers have been disconnected and I have written several letters with no response. I recently went in to the dmv to get a copy of my title, they printed me out 8 pages of what I need to do to get my title because these rip off people still have a lien on my car. The dmv said it would have to be at least 5 years before I can get my title free and clear of this company. What a bunch of crap. Any ideas from anyone ??? So what does a person do to protect themselves in this case? Do we worry someone might show up and take your vehicle? And God knows if you would ever get it back.

I too have an issue with these clowns having a lien on my title.  The problem is I NEVER took out a loan with them!  I live in NV no where near these people and in 2014 they put a lien on my car.  Why I can't tell you.  I went to get a copy of the title to have the state tell me there was a lien from "Whetstone Partners LLC"  After researching the Florida Secretary of State website I found out that as of 9/28/2015 the company is no longer in business.  They deactivated their business license and no longer have a registered agent.  They simply no longer exist.  You can try sending copies of that information from the FL SOS website and submit that you your state and see if they will clear the title.  If they won't you will have to find out what your state procedure is when the lien holder is no longer in business and cannot release it.  Good luck!
