My daughter was admitted to White Horse Ranch on 05/02/2012 at a rate of $135 per day for treatment. My insurance would not cover her stay even though White Horse Ranch assured us beforehand that they had pre-authorization. I called my insurance the next day to see why they had changed the approval and they told me that White Horse Ranch HAD NOT submitted anything to request pre-authorization. They had lied about the pre-authorization!!!

Later, after researching the pre-authorization number given by White Horse Ranch with my insurance company they told me that the number given was not an authorization number.  They said that the authorization numbers they assign contain letters and not just a string of numbers.  After some further investigating by the claims department they found that the number given was a reference number assigned to a phone call that was made to them using their automated system. All phone calls made to the insurance company are given a reference number, no matter what the call is about. It showed that someone did call from White Horse Ranch and when they did they were given an error code.

The error they received stated that pre-authorization was needed for treatment and that there were no benefits available for residential treatment. The representative in my insurance claims department confirmed that no pre-authorization was ever given to, or requested from, White Horse Ranch.  When they called they received an error and did not seek authorization. They never once had any type of pre-authorization from my insurance like they said they did.
The only thing they had was a reference code for a phone call telling them that our insurance did not cover residential treatment centers. They completely scammed me when I was desperate and trying to get my daughter help.

A total of $12,000 cash was paid in advance for her for her stay. I paid it out of pocket hoping to get
help for my child. Everything I had saved was given to them. I wanted to get my daughter help and had high hopes for treatment here. Boy, was I wrong!!!! On 06/18/2012, my daughter was discharged from White Horse Ranch. They removed her from the program because they were not able to handle her condition. Her being discharge early left a credit of $5,520. The remaining credit of $5520 was to be issued as a refund for the treatment that she did not receive from the
facility. As at today's date, we have yet to receive payment of the outstanding amount, which is now considerably overdue.

We have tried to contact them about the amount owed multiple times. The department of Mental Health's Advocacy Office is involved and the director at White Horse Ranch refuses to communicate with them as well. The case has been sent to the Inspector General's Office and the Attorney General's Office. White Horse Ranch has been nothing but a nightmare!! They are keeping a disabled child from receiving the treatment she needs because I can't afford further treatment until they decide to refund me the remainder of my money. What type of cruel and evil person would do this to a child?
