HE WAS VERY RUDE AND THREW OFF ON OUR BUILDING.  HE REFUSED TO PAY WHAT THE CONTRACTOR CHARGED US TO DO THE REPAIRS FOR DAMAGE THAT HIS CLIENT CAUSED.  VERY UNPROFESSIONAL!  MADE THE CONVERSATION PERSONAL INSTEAD OF PROFESSIONAL.

Dear Anonymous:
I apologize you felt I was rude to you during my handling of your property damage claim. It is never my intent to be rude to anyone I work with. I was hired to assess your property damage claim and to make sure that the repairs bid(s) submitted were fair and reasonable for the extent of damages and type of working being done. Sometime in an effort to avoid any confusion I tend to be very direct or straight to the point and this maybe construed as me being rude. In fact I'm not being rude it is simply the best way for me to make sure there is no misunderstanding what I am saying.

The issue with your claim as I explained to you was that first your contractors estimate was excessive. Their scope of damages were not accurate and they were overcharging for the work they were bidding. I provided you an itemized line item estimate detailing the cost of materials, number of labors needed and acceptable hourly rate needed to complete your repairs. I even located a local contractor who was willing to complete your repairs for the amount of my estimate. Instead of choosing to use the lowest bid you chose to use the more expensive contactor.

Also this was a 3rd party insurance claim. A 3rd party as I explained to you does not owe for replacement cost. We only owed you for actual cash value. This means that your new building materials are depreciated. This is standard acceptable practice in the insurance industry. You say that I made this claim personal. I'd argue and say that you made this claim personal not me. I did my job as directed, I assessed your damages and I provided you a settlement offer. I even explained your options in detail. You took my offer personally and became upset because I would not accept your contractors excessive estimate.

You became defensive and extremely difficult to work with. That is when I decided to try and located a local contractor who might be willing to go and inspect your damages on my behalf. After I located a local contractor to inspected your damages I shared a copy of my settlement offer with him. The local contractor agreed that he could make the needed repairs for the amount of my offer. Then I presented this option to you. You refused to allow the local contractor I found to do the work. You said that you want your contractor to make the repairs which I said was fine but pointed out that we only owed for the least expensive repair option. This meant that you would be paying part of your repair bill out of pocket. That was a choose you made not me.

I told you that you did not have to accept my offer. I told you that you could reject my offer and take other action like filing a claim with your insurance company and having them subrogate, file small claims or litigate etc. I did my best to explain my assessment of your damages to you along with your settlement options. You chose the way this claim went and settled not me. I continued to stayed professional with you even when you were not professional with me.

I did the job I was hired to do and I did it with professionalism and tact. I provided you settlement options and even went over and above by locating a local contractor for you to provide you a second bid which was inline with the settlement offer I made you. I explained you did not have to accept my offer and I went over your options if you choose to reject my offer. In the end you decided how this claim went and ended not me. I simply provided you all the necessary information you needed to make the best decision for you.

Thank you for your assistance in this matter,
Steve
