We have had Windstream Small Business DSL since October of 2006. Never had any problems with the service until October of 2010. That is when the DSL speeds started dropping during peak hours and weekends. Windstream claimed for over a month that it was not a over subscription issue. On December 20th 2010 Windstream finally admitted that the remote was oversubscribed and I was told that they would be upgrading the remote to fiber. They said that it would take until September 9th of 2011 to complete the upgrade.

I followed up with Windstream throughout the summer and was told numerous times that the upgrade was "on schedule". On August 3rd 2011 I spoke with Amanda in their complaint dept. and she assured me that the fiber upgrade was being worked on and was still on schedule for Sept. 9th.

Then on August 27th I am told by Windstream Senior Support Specialist Larissa that absolutely NOTHING had been done all summer and it will be sometime next year before any repairs are scheduled.

Windstream flat out lied for 10 months regarding fixing this remote. They still have no plans to fix the remote, yet are continuing to sell more DSL accounts off of it. Seems fraudulent to continue to sell new DSL accounts on a remote that Windstream has acknowledged to be oversubscribed for almost a year.

Here is the complaint thread that I made in November 2010. Windstream technicians monitor this forum and assist customers. On page 4 of my post you will see Windstream admitting to the over subscription issue and stating that the fiber upgrade is being planned. http://www.dslreports.com/forum/r25050311-DSL-Speed-Issues I am still keeping the thread up to date with Windstream's terrible performance.

They have given me a whopping $10 a month discount for the next 12 months. That is what they consider compensation for getting DSL speeds less than 1/3rd - 1/5th of what I pay for.

I have filed a complaint with the FCC, Better Business Bureau, and the State Attorney General. The responses from Windstream are verbatim copy and paste responses from different Windstream employees. This company is a joke. Avoid them if you can.

It would take first prize for most miserable internet service.

They have so seriously oversold their satellite internet service that if you exceed your meager download allowance, you are throttled back to dial up (or less) speed for the next 24 hours or more.

They call this "Fair Access Policy" or "FAP".  It's just their way of justifying the shabby service they provide.

Sorry Windstream has been less than honest with you and others, but there are certainly worse providers in the market.
